Decided to stay as location and 4 stars.I have given 1 as 0 is unavailable.I checked into a single room Extremely small and being partially disabled found it small and claustrophobic being disabled the shower was integrated with a bath this I found impossible to get into I decided to change rooms and explained the situation to reception.Obviously this was at an extra cost to go into a twin or a double room however the bath shower was still exactly the same.My friends have checked into this hotel and were in the restaurant I went down to the desk and asked for for a table in the restaurant I went in and I ordered my food rather expensive with a pint of real ale at £5.10 per pintI decided against the soft drink because this was nearly £4 a pintI went looking for my friends who are in a different restaurant I asked if I could eat in there with them and was told quite abruptly and no I've got to eat in the other restaurant.I returning to my table my food was already there waiting for me some 10 minutes having been left aloneI found this a bit out of order I tried to explain to this to the waitress but the waitress was very busy although the restaurant was small and was quite quietI decided to eat my food and I watched and listened to other guests there was table about 8 people there if they're pre-ordered their food and everything came wrong part of their party was in the other restaurantI've no idea why I wasn't offered an option of going into the other restaurant but hey ho and then decided to sit in the bar and wait for my friends who had a three course meal. The bar was quite pleasant quiet but expensive.I returning to my room and having a good look around the decor was all dated the room was very expensive and a good old Google told me that within walking distance there were far better hotels some admittedly 3-star but half the price.I slept well the room was quite quiet but there's air conditioning units out side going all night. but the room was adequate and probably worth about 45 to 60 pounds max.I went down to breakfast all I can say is it with mush served on a platter the food wasn't really up to 4 stars .Overall very disappointing.

Our room was spacious, clean and plenty of storage/hanging space. Neat shelving in the bathroom for toiletries (so many hotels don't provide this). Service from everyone in the hotel was excellent. Huge car park. Excellent breakfast and good quality evening meal. It's an old hotel and decor in keeping so don't expect boutique style. Front bar refurbished stylishly and comfortable. Only one night stopover so didn't explore the area to be able to comment on location but recommend the Metropole

We've stayed at the Metropole twice with the car club, because the location is perfect for driving around beautiful Mid-Wales.The service is excellent, always so attentive. Our package included breakfast and dinner, and both were great. Despite being super busy food came out quickly, and was really tasty. My only note would be that the decor is quite dated: lots of wallpaper and carpet in clashing patterns, not so comfortable furniture and a disappointing amount of electrical sockets, which meant my phone had to charge at the other side of the room. Bring an extension lead!

A lovely clean, well managed hotel with excellent breakfast and facilities. The pool was warm and clean and great for kids too. Despite the hotel being very busy the breakfast service was well run and food fresh, good quality and plentiful. A lovely touch when the rooms were cleaned was my child's pyjamas being neatly folded on their bed and their soft toys nicely lined up waiting for them! I would definitely recommend this hotel for a nice break.

So clean and comfortable. Food great. Staff very helpful. It was just such a quaint and spacious place with a lovely homely atmosphere, and very quiet. Must have been about 200 people eating evening meal but we didn’t have to wait for courses at all. Always plenty of staff around.

A little gem of a hotel that mixes old with modern, we had room 130, which was very quiet apart from floor boards creeping from upstairs. Staff very goid and helpful, food was excellent and plenty of choices on menu. Heating in the room is electric radiator, control is on wall with heat choice by turning little switch either up or down. The pool area was very clean, overall we enjoyed our 2 days there .

Great hotel! When booking, we chose a superior double as the photos show a shower cubicle, separately to the bath tub. Unfortunately, our room had a fixed shower head over the bath. Although I had only upgraded the room for the stand alone shower, I didn't complain or give the hotel a chance to make it right. The staff here are absolutely amazing, on check-in desk, restaurant and breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was slightly dated, but spotlessly clean. The bed was very comfortable and there was tea/coffee facilities in the room.Breakfast was very fresh, lots of variety and tasty. The swimming pool was a nice addition to our stay, as was the sauna and jacuzzi.Overall, a very nice stay. I would definitely book this hotel in the future.

Very friendly, efficient, & helpful staff. Very efficient reception. Rooms clean & well appointed. Food (breakfast & dinner) was very good (we eat fish, but not meat) & restaurant really well run. The spa (gym & pool) was good. The town does not have many amenities, but the walks in the surrounding area are excellent, & if prepared to drive (Wye River & Elan Valley is 30 mins away) the walking is really good.

Huge hotel. Check in easy. Went for drink in the bar, husband said the barman obviously didn't like his job and had zero chat 😞. Room big but tv tiny!Dinner was lovely, had a package so set menu.Spa was great, loved the steam room.Breakfast was good, all hot and fresh.Would definitely stay again.

We enjoyed a great 3 night stay at the Metropole - a gem in the heart of mid Wales 🏴 very homely and comfortable . A dog friendly hotel so we were able to take our pooch and explore the hills and valleys. A special shout out to the restaurant - fantastic food and very friendly and attentive staff. Amazing value - will be back 👏
