Really fabulous food. We had the taster menu which was creative, delicious and beautifully presented. Service for drinks a little slow, but everywhere struggling to find staff currently. Lovely decor with interesting artwork on the walls. Will definitely return.

Outstanding restaurant in the centre of Montgomery. Since it offers fine dining, not advised for a quick meal but it is well worth the wait. The staff was nice and helpful, the interior design is modern and tasteful. I ate a smoked eel and apple starter, herb risotto main and panna cotta dessert, all of them were excellent.

The Checkers has reopened with new management and as we visited a few times both during its original restaurant days as well as when it turned into a bistro, we wanted to see what the new team has done with the place. The decor has mostly remained but there's a brand new tasting menu (and optional wine flight to match). Flavours, presentation were all there and we had a really lovely evening. The lamb was especially nice and we also really enjoyed the harissa carrot. At the end of the night the Chef came out to chat and check that everything was okay, which was a nice touch. Overall, a great experience and we hope the place will gain its Michelin-star once again.

Visited for lunch. A pleasant experience. Starter was smoked eel and pigs head baked crisp on outside with slices of apple; a good appetiser. Steak tartare was one alternative. For main course the choices were a pork dish, risotto or pollock. Not a favourite of mine, pollock but it was superbly cooked in a piquant champagne sauce. The £30 lunch included a dessert course ofpanecotta or mango trifle. It is a lunch perhaps best experienced in the company of friend, family or lover with whom you want to stay a couple of hours.

Having visited as a party of five , we were disappointed with various parts of the tasting menu ,Namely food served cold and cold plates , which we bought to the attention of the manager , but the chef at the end , said he was aware of our issues , but did not offer to replace the dishes , or take them off the bill , @ £110 a head including wine , it needs to be 100% right. The knowledge about the wine pairing was poor, no list to know what you were drinking , or basic knowledge of which country the wine was from .One of my party left a one star review on trip advisor,2 weeks later I get a call from the chef owner about the review,I’m not sure what his ideal outcome of his uninvited call was, but I see why he’s not front of house , as he soon became argumentative . So I terminated his call.To me we let it pass, but due to his aggressive call , I felt it would be remiss of me not to provide a personal review .I wish him and his team well, the feedback was and is constructive, and with training can be fixed , however I doubt he will listen and another one will probably bite the dust .Only time will tell, good luck to the checkers

My wife and I have been dining at Checkers for over 7 years now, under the previous owners and now with Rachel and Andrew, who opened it anew on March this year.Although the style is very different from Stephane Borie and the girls, they have definitely put their stamp on the resturant. In my view, the mark of a good tasting menu is when we are arguing about which was our favourite dish, the day (or two!) afterwards. This we were, after our last visit. We wish Rachel and Andrew all the very best with this venture. We'll be back!
