Garioch Fish Bar in Aberdeenshire

tonight (06.01.2022) i ordered my meal online for 18:15, when going to collect my meal it was late - this is not the first time.Once receiving the meal i had made a comment to my partner that it smelt “very fishy” which meant nothing at the time due to us ordering fish and chips.i started to tuck in to my meal, i focused more on eating the chips first - which were lovely 😊anyway.. back to the fish.. Once i got my fork through the hard batter and lifted my fork to my mouth i noticed a weird smell.. (back to the smelly fish part) my fish smelt of CAT URINE! no word of a lie, i did think maybe it was just my sense of smell due to having a cold, but nope. my partner also confirmed that it was a cat urine smell. i nearly vomited. VERY off putting. DID NOT eat it. absolutely disgusting. (typing this an hour later and i feel like i can still smell it and almost bloody taste it!🤢🤢)Mozzarella sticks also undercooked and not nice at all.Overall.. waste of money but lovely chips 👍🏼

Got a fish supper and a side of salt and pepper squid. The salt and pepper squid were amazing, perfectly cooked nice and tender. The chips were very nice aswell. However the fish was not good, the batter was unbelievably rock hard. I could bearly get through the batter to eat the fish. After snapping some of the batter to get to the dry chewy fish, the batter splintered and went flying everywhere due to how hard it was. Had a few bites of the fish and started to smell an ammonia odour which is not good. Gave 2 stars because chips and squid was nice but fish was NOT edible. Will not be returning.

jumbo sausage supper is great and well cooked, batter is delicious as well. fish supper is also very good quality. bit on the pricy side but overall 8/10

Orderd a carry out at 5 oclock for 6.30. It is now 7.20 and still wating.no reply on the phone either.very poor service.wont be using this fish bar again

Fast service and the BEST fish and chips around. 10/10 recommend :)

Update: Chippy is back to how it was, 5 stars.Usually fantastic, however last two were awful (on the 6th and the 13th Aug)Fish was hard and chewy, batter was black in some places. Also they usually provide top tier tar tar sauce but haven't been getting any recently :(I'll update my review to 5 stars if it goes back to how it was.

Food has been consistently tasty, especially with the tartare sauce 😁. A weekly treat for us 😁

I decided to stop here on a long distance drive for a tasty snack, unfortunately whilst ordering the man behind the counter decided to pick his bum, sniff it and continue flipping fish with the same hand, it's safe to say I walked straight out as I was not up for eating bum juice fish- Disgusting!

I don’t normally leave bad reviews, things have to be really bad before I do. We’ve not been in a good while due to a poor fish and chips however decided to try again based on a friends recommendation. Phoned our order at 5.15pm for collecting at 6.30pm, went in just after 6.30pm and gave our name for collecting and paid. I waited outside whilst orders came and went, at 6.50pm I went back to ask if it was ready to be told it had been sitting waiting since 6.30pm by another disinterested member of staff.We only live a couple of minutes away so it wasn’t in the bag for ages however it was truly awful. Because it has been sitting for so long wrapped up in the shop the scampi batter was soft and the chips soft and dried out, I’d asked for no salt and vinegar so the worst part that everything bar the salad was absolutely drenched in salt, it’s all you could actually taste. It was so bad and inedible. We tried calling - no answer despite there being 3 people behind the counter. Finally got through and was passed to the manager who was apologetic but told me she was ‘throwing things in the fryer’ and not checking on any of the orders. After explaining about not only the wait but the inedible food I was offered a credit note to be sent out. I wait to see if one arrives however regardless we won’t be back. Back to the High Street fish bar we go, great food and staff.

Therefore I may have missed a hidden gem meal and instead I opted for something different.So.I ordered a jumbo sausage, mega burger, chicken burger and baked potato with cheese onion and egg mayo.Let's start with baked potato. It was a very decent and simple dish that was well-prepared and I enjoyed every single bit of it. Would recommend.Then we move on to the mega burger.... Probably used cheapest available meat, there were no vegetables or salad in it and bap was of dubious freshness. Would not recommend.Then we get to the jumbo sausage... I considered that one to be inedible. dough was old and hard to chew, and only forced myself to take one bite due to abhorrent smell of grease that would have better use in biofuel powerplant. Would not recommend. Photo of the sausage attached.And the worst dish: Chicken burger. By the gods, I ate alot of chicken-based products including burgers. This is by far the worst one I had in my life. There was just an old bap and a single piece of mechanically separated chicken waste slapped in the middle. NOTHING ELSE.
