Where is Pennan Inn?

🏠 Pennan, Fraserburgh AB43 6JB

"Our family-run BnB is situated in one of the most peaceful and picturesque areas in the north east of Scotland. Pennan was used as a location in the film "Local Hero" during the 1980s and garnered a lot of popularity that way. The iconic telephone booth featured in the film is still a favorite among tourists visiting the village. We offer a peaceful and relaxing environment with the North Sea right in front of our Inn which allows you to listen to the sounds of the waves crashing on the shores. You are always guaranteed to wake up to a breathtaking view. Our rooms are bright and cozy, while two of them offer sea view on top of it. Please note: We are no restaurant! We only offer a takeaway drinks and coffee during our opening hours!"

It was excellent because the room was spotless and had everything we needed. The hearty soup with sausages was delicious and satisfying. Our hosts were so hospitable, chatty and helpful. The bar, for residents only, was ideal, with a wood burning stove to keep us toasty. The Local Hero connection was nostalgic and the view of the phone box and the sky, directly outside the B&B was spectacular. We didn't see the Northern Lights, but our hosts have some spectacular pics of this. All in all a wonderful stay. Thankyou.

The hosts really made it!Surprised my dad with a weekend stay as he is a big fan of the film local hero. It was totally magic to be in that peaceful location tucked away in the bay, room looking out on the phone box (it swallowed my change!), and even getting to see the northern lights (twice! I could never have planned it).The hosts Monica and Roland were brilliant, so helpful and friendly. Monica helped us plan our days, finding local points of interest and restaurants to eat at, and kept us updated on the aurora. Often she would walk outside with her camera and tell us “if I’m not back in 10 minutes, it’s there”. And it was! Roland was such a friendly guy, and we really enjoyed our nights in the hotel bar talking away to him for hours over a can of beer. A super relaxing holiday. The rooms were clean, the shower was powerful, and the breakfast was great with excellent vegan options. Couldn’t have asked for more.Roo and Steve

A phenomenal wee place to stay. Monica & Roland are incredibly warm, welcoming and make you feel right at home. The hotel/B&B is clean, comfy beds, filled with wee extras and an extraordinary little Gallery filled with Monica's photos and prints and local artists. We went Aurora hunting and we have won the jackpot!!We will return to Pennan...

Idyllic setting with amazing Seaviews. Loved the German hotdog and German marble cake and cream. Perfect day, perfect place. A little bit of heaven

Roland & Monika are lovely hosts & really couldn't do enough to ensure we felt at home. They booked us a table at a nearby hotel for dinner, we sat outside watching the sunset afterwards, drinking wine & wrapped in fluffy blankets. Breakfast was served in the gallery amongst talented Monika's photographs and other works of art. It was really wonderful.

So wonderful to be back after about a 10/11 year gap. I think my 5th time staying here dating back 25 years since the release of Local Hero - the one DVD I would rescue if the house was on fire!New owners Roland and Monika are fabulous. The rooms have been upgraded since I was last here. They're still small but, hey, it's a tiny building! Very comfy bed, nicely decorated and fitted out and now with small, modern en-suites.Oh... If you have one of their breakfasts, don't worry about where are you going to be eating at lunchtime in the evening - plenty to keep you going until breakfast tomorrow! 🙄😋😁

Fantastic place to visit. On a sunny day you could think you are in a Cornish village. Scenery is outstanding.

Great little B&B. Very friendly and attentive couple is running the place. Ocean views, charming room with a good sized bathroom. Very clean.

Not to be missed whether you've heard of Local Hero or not.Great menu, super friendly service and delicious food.Extra star for staying open when so many others are closed for the Winter.Well worth a visit if you're in the area, worth a drive if you're not. Phone and book and check opening days.

Highly recommended inn located in the secluded seafront village of Pennan. The classic Local Hero movie buffs will find plenty of memorabilia, as many scenes were filmed on location. The famous red phone booth still stands in front of the entrance. Rooms are not large but neat and well kept. Restaurant is delicious, with special recommendation for the Cullen skink. We enjoyed every minute there. Thanks.
