Great food, relatively good service however the prices are quite something for the size of food you get.We are not big people and after a 2 course meal and a pudding, we've left the place feeling still quite hungryFine dining I agree but you have to also be realistic that you need to leave feeling full after spending that amount of money on foodWould think twice to revisit

Given that I'd heard and read that this place was "the place to eat", I thought we'd give it a go. The food was well prepared and presented, but nothing outstanding. The atmosphere was ok (bearing in mind this was mid-pandemic that's an achievement) and the staff were friendly enough. I wouldn't say my experience here was a 'wow', but it's certainly a place to try.

Travelled from St Andrews to Stonehaven and Tolbooth didn’t failed us. Fish and seafood at its best. A 16th century building setting by the sea, great customer service. Highly recommendable and will definitely coming back.

Excellent sea food restaurant (also has meat but didn't have). Great service in beautiful setting (16th century building on the harbour). Specials always excellent.

Lovely staff and very good food. The view is super and the wine selection too!

Recently had a fantastic meal at The Tolbooth to celebrate our anniversary. Food was excellent, specials in particular that day were off note, fresh Shetland mussels & freshly caught local Stonehaven lobster the stand-outs. Oysters from Loch Fyne superb!! The quality of all elements of the meal were excellent, not just the main dishes but vegetables perfectly cooked, desserts were devine!! On top of the food, the staff were excellent, attentive and friendly. A great night and look forward to returning soon!!

Superb venue. Amazing quality seafood at great prices, right on the harbour front. Staff superb and all done in a very Covid friendly way. Recommended! Sorry pic just of Shellfish Bisque and Scallops as mains looked so yummy we just jumped in!

Excellent local seafood, lovely desserts.Years since we were last here: we will be back.Cosy, small restaurant with daily specials for both starters and mains.Prompt, friendly service.Note:The restaurant is located at the top of a flight of uneven steps (it IS the oldest building in Stonehaven, after all), so not ideal for the infirm.

What a find! Dinner for two - entree, amuse bouche, starter, main and 1 dessert, plus 2 bottles of wine, all for about £130.Very attentive and friendly service from the staff all evening. All the dishes were fabulous - good flavours subtly seasoned, and artfully presented. The chef clearly knows what he wants to achieve and brings out the best in his ingredients. All the fish are freshly caught and locally sourced, so no doubt the menu will change frequently. There were three specials and then a choice of 3-4 starters, mains and desserts. Plenty! The restaurant is on the first floor of a quaint building by the harbour (outdoor stone steps, note) but unfortunately the windows are too small for guests to enjoy the view. We were there on Wednesday evening and all the tables were booked, so I think reservations are a must to avoid disappointment. Highly recommend this place!
