Lovely cafe, very obliging as we had dog, so provided takeaway coffee and scone. Scone was best I'd had for a while. Offered a range of gluten free cakes. Staff very helpful and friendly. If you have space, it would be great to offer an outdoor seating area for dog owners so we could have more of menu as everything looked delicious.

Upper to mid prices, but very nice and we enjoyed our lunch.

Café more upmarket than others around. Pleasant staff and good atmosphere. Just 10 minutes walk from thriving Barnard Castle

Excellent cafe, food was super tasty and packed with local produce. Service was very fast and all surfaces were spotless. Overall light and bright with relaxing layout. We tried the Bowes Rarebit and the Ploughman's with a side of Fries. Then the homemade Carrot Cake with lashings of Tea. Loved how fresh it all looked and tasted. Will definitely return.

Nice staff. Nice food but a bit pricey. Busy when we were there as there was something on.

By far, one of the better cafes attached to a museum.

A wonderful cafe to visit if you're in the museum.I tried the Ploughman's Lunch. It's a pork pie served with diced apples in sauce on top, half a sausage roll, a pickled onion and pickle. Along with a chunk of very mild cheese and salad. The soup of the day, no matter what it is is also absolutely delicious.

What a brilliant little museum cafe - really friendly staff, quick service, great value and incredibly tasty food. The steak sandwich I had here was the best one I've ever had, and the fact that you could add a little mug of soup was great. Cannot fault, worth coming to the museum for the cafe alone!

I have been to this café several times, the quality of food is very good (the soups are a triumph) and I would not hesitate to recommend, even for just a coffee and light bite. The only downfall is there is not much for children and the 'Kids Lunchbox' is shamefully bad, consisting of a tiny sandwich, haribo, mini cheddars and a sugary juice. Not what any parent wants to feed their child and certainly doesn't match the high standard of food on offer for adults. After minor tweaks I think this café would be a solid 5/5.
