Castle Eden Inn in County Durham

Don't like it since it re opened... Food basic and small portions...waited over hour for food to be ordered.. Till we then realised that if you in the restaurant you must still have to go to bar to order food? .. As no one came to take our order! We have Lost a good villiage pub with a great atmosphere... Not my fist choice pub anymore shame

Just been again today sadly it's way off what it used to be. Staff great as usual.Won't be going again, sad.In response to the owners reply, I particularly don't want frozen chips it's not hard to do real ones as people want now. Also I've had Hunters Chicken in many forms but not in a bowl with far too much cheese on it that you could not locate the chicken.For the price paid you should at least get real chips.The previous owners managed to do that and may I say at a lower price as well. Also the wife's mushy peas had a strange taste.

Menu didn't have any labeling as to weather an item was vegetarian or GF (you had to ask, and no veggie roast was listed) They had ran out of veggie gravy and a roast would be nothing without the gravy so we asked if I could have the one other veggie option which was the halloumi berger.After all that though the food was amazing! And great portion for the price.

Great staff, great food

Food is nice the staff are rude especially the old barmaid , if I hadn’t of been there as a guest of someone’s wedding I would’ve made a big point to say something but I didn’t want to ruin the occasion.

Sunday lunch delicious. Good choice of meats and veg. Large Yorkshire puddings and portions sizes served with rich thick delicious gravy.Parmo was good thickness, with tasty sauce and cheese on top. Chicken a little over cooked and crispy. Tasty garlic sauce and sides salad along with proper home cooked chips.

Visited 13th December, welcoming friendly staff, lovely atmosphere, it was very busy but we got a table,.. Gorgeous menus, we had the light bite menu, to order before 6pm... Big plates of freshly cooked food.. food came really quickly, and was delicious, I hope to return soon, can fully recommend this lovely place

Great countryside pub, with a good menu that is served by quick efficient service staff. Well worth the journey to enjoy the food. But make sure you book ahead. Its a popular place.

Visited in 2018 and wasn't very impressed, however now live in the area and its the nearest pub that serves food, so thought I'd give it another shot! And boy am I glad I did! The 2nd time of visiting around a month ago I got lasagna and it was seriously the best I've ever tasted, cooked to perfection!Visited again and tried the fish and chips as can be seen in the photo and yes that is brown sauce (don't judge) soft flaky fish, crispy batter, fluffy chips and the home made mushy peas... Only thing missing was a bit of fresh lemon, hey I can live without that, absolutely delicious.
