Clarendon's Cafe in County Durham

Lovely traditional tea room with actual teapots and nice food. Reasonable prices too.

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch at Clarendon's. The soup was homemade and very tasty, as was the panini. Being sat near the cake counter we couldn't resist the coffee cake , 1 piece was generous enough for us to share!

Superb food, very reasonable prices and great service. A real gem in the heart of the town.

Sat upstairs aa full downstairs but it was a lovely room and actually preferred it. Soup was delicious and the club sandwich had plenty of filling. Staff were friendly. Too full for cake but on paying and seeing the carrot cake we bought 2 slices to take away. A wonderful place would highly recommend

Revisited here today sadly my last review of 5 stars I have deleted. Overpriced average food as far as I'm concerned. Service OK but could be improved. Each to there own ..... it is my last visit now there.

The afternoon tea was nice but let down by a few things so not the very best although it was reasonably priced and service was pleasant. Also the glass table top didn't quite fit and had uncomfortable metal edges/clips. (Tea bags not loose leaf tea, tea pot was very battered, cakes were a bit too sweet, scones were a bit small, cake stand was very plain)

First time there. Grace looked after us and she was lovely. Polite, helpful and attentive. Good social distancing and good working practices. Asked for breakfast tea and came in a large pot with extra hot water. It was Taylor's tea, not a tea bag and was great. Had jacket potato with prawns. Good size potato and well cooked. The wife had avacado and prawns and again delicious. Then followed with a slice of carrot cake which the wife said was the best she had ever tasted. I had a fruit scone and that was a good size and very tasty. Will definitely be going back. All the staff seemed very professional and polite.

During our stay in England we stopped by this cute place to have lunch. Tea was great and our lunch options were all fantastic. I tried the jacket potato, and my wife one of the special salads of the day. We ate Upstairs and it did feel more cozy and quiet than downstairs tables. Also try one of their scones, they are great!
