Excellent pub, great beer, great food. The beer was Timothy Taylor Landlord in excellent condition. To eat I had the Belly Busta all day breakfast, great food at a good price, my wife had the scampi, she said the same as me. Situated next to Durham prison hence the picture 😁

This is a fantastic pub. One of my very favourites. It is used as a local by a number of locals and staff from nearby insitutions. It's been run by the same family for a number of years. There is a good range of lagers and whiskies and although I don't drink it , they would claim to have a fantastic range of gins. You can get a range of traditional pub food including bowls of chips, sandwiches and more substantial meals. Last time I was there, they did cooked breakfasts and mine was great. There are two small areas outside for smokers and the building itself is beautifully kept with lovely hanging baskets outside. For tourists to Durham, it's tucked away slightly just outside the shopping centre next to Durham Crown Court but it's definitely worth visiting. They also do nice pots of tea too.

The food is good. The price is reasonable for what you get. The service was great and I loved the place. It is cozy and warm. Such a good place for a dinner with friends or just to have some drinks.

One of my favourite places for food and gin in Durham. I have been coming here for years. Food great portions and has good choices for vegetarians. Staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Fantasic place, good atmosphere, really good food, well priced, extremely good drink options.Friendly place considering im not local.Well mannered and polite staff.Would recommend for a couple as it is very nice and cosy. The baked camembert for 2 would stretch.

Meals are really beautifully presented, and you'll have to go a long way to find a more interesting menu. From pizzas, burgers and steaks to camel cottage pie, zebra kebab, and frogs legs, theres something for everyone, from the most conservative to the most adventurous.Menu is interestingly presented in the form of a newspaper, which is novel, but also means its a little more difficult to read as its non linear format makes it easy to miss something. Still, its nothing a little more time perusing it wont fix. They also do some fantastic gin concoctions, with such additions as rose petals and oranges. There is a very small but pleasant outside area too, overlooking a residential street, which catches the afternoon and evening sun.Staff were very pleasant, as was the atmosphere, and food was served within around 10/15 mins. Price VERY much depends on what you order varying from around the £10 mark for a main up to a whopping £75 for a Kobe beef burger.I would definitely eat here again.
