Avoid at all cost £3,80 for a bacon nd egg butty, what I wouldn't feed to a dog, full of grease, then your told u can't stand in the cafe while your waiting for take out, you have to go round the back, unreal they still have a business very disappointing

My how service has changed. Served cold coffee 25 minutes before our food was brought out. The food was still fantastic but the place was so noisy I could barely hear myself think.had to leave asap as was just too much for me . Yhis place used to be Chester-le-Streets best kept secret but now im afraid its not

I usually have an enjoyable experience at this cafe and have visited many times in the past, however on a recent visit we received cold and unwelcoming service. We walked in with a sign blocking the door, the staff moved it out the way and didn't even say hello. We then waited 15 minutes to be served and ended up having to ask at the counter for a menu. Because this was annoying we discussed amongst ourselves about the poor service. The waitress then complained to other customers at the table behind us calling us rude. We decided to leave at this point and another waitress came up and aggressively asked us if we were leaving. As we walked out the door the customers who the waitress complained about us to gave us a sarcastic wave. Overall experience made us feel like intruders. For staff to complain about customers to their own customers is highly unprofessional and caused further issues. Food good, service terrible.

Had a wonderful afternoon tea today, we couldn't eat all the food! We were however, given boxes to take stuff home. Always great value there, good service & lovely food.

Pleased to say Passingtime Cafe is still open for take aways (only closed Wed). The take away Sunday lunches are exceptionally good. Called today for a coffee and sandwich. Excellent. Thank you Paul and staff.

Fab little cafe at top of Front St with big council car park next to it. Had a lovely brunch of scrambled eggs on toast and after looking at the size of their scones took a cheese one home for hubby! Extensive menu with breakfasts , toasties, sarnies, scones, jacket potatoes and larger meals like lasagne and steak pies with gorgeous cakes too. Not huge only about 10 tables so it always seems to be full. Good value too with quick service

Visited this cafe today for afternoon tea. We were delighted with the friendly service. Warm and welcoming staff. Unlimited refills on our drinks. Great value for money. Everything was freshly made and tasted delicious. We were given boxes to carry the two cakes we didn’t mange to eat home with us. You must book in advance for afternoon tea and it’s served from 2.30pm. Highly recommended.

Came in for breakfast - very pleasant traditional cafe with friendly accommodating staff. We were served a generous plateful of excellent locally sourced food in a nice relaxed atmosphere, and will definitely visit again. If you want food or just a cuppa, ignore all the soulless corporate chains and come here.
