The Hilltop Bar & Restaurant in County Durham

The food was terrible, not even up to cheap pub grub standard. The fish my daughter received was so thin and overcooked the wasn't any fish left in it! Asked them to bring her another one which they did and that was just as bad! The place is totally run down and needs a good clean, we had a hole in the plasterboard wall right where we were sitting where some lovely person had punched there fist through it by the looks of things! I would advise to avoid and go elsewhere.

Booked a table for 7pm. Arrived at 6:30pm. No member of staff greeting customers just a sign to say find a table and take note of the number. We found a table which was In an area with a slice of lemon and food debris on the floor. There was no number on the table, the disc was missing. The only beer on offer was John smith's. No real ales on offer even though the Greene King website advertise Abbot Ale etc. It took over 15 minutes for the table adjacent to be cleared and children were runnimg around the bar area.Not a very nice impression for a birthday celebration. We are finishing this drink and moving on elsewhere. We won't be returning.

Came here as shepherd and shepherdess wasn't doing food. I had a nice mixed grill... Plenty on the plate..wife had hunter's chicken.. Again nice. Pint of perroini was refreshing... Decor is a little tired in places... Friendly staff... Would definitely return.

First visit to the Hilltop with our mothers. They ordered fish and chips and were very disappointed, mainly a plate of batter and chips. I ordered a chicken wrap and my partner got a steak sandwich and these were lovelyLovely pub and lovely staff but they need to improve on the fish.

Just paid our 1st visit to The Hill Top and it most certainly won't be our last, the hospitality and cosiness of the place was A1.Nice pleasant greeting on arrival and all of the staff are a delight, couldn't do enough to make our time there a pleasure. The food was top drawer too and my mixed grill x\l was divine and every mouthful was taste bud heaven. Well worth a visit and I guarantee you'll be back for for more 🍻 🍽🥂 😋 a big thank to todays team of Ben, Ash, Ylana, Mel and Paul all extremely pleasant and wonderful people THANK YOU. Despite a busy day, mothering Sunday, room was available without booking. As all green King restaurants, service was available at the bar and the table and always on hand. Great offers on food and drink once more, friendly staff and good atmosphere on the day. Food was good quality and plentiful for such cheap prices. Highly recommend downloading the apps to gain offers and discounts

Been coming to The Hilltop for a long time and each time I can always have a good experience there. The food is always amazing, the staff are always fantastic but one lady in particular Amanda always makes the time to chat and nothing is ever too much trouble. Tonight I took my dog in and she made so much time for him too. Such a lovely team of people but Amanda is just amazing! Thank you and we'll see you next time 😊

Not good, not awful. Menu looks fantastic and reasonably priced, but the food didn't live up it. Would of scored it lower but the service was great.Returned for lunch today and it was much better, great service and the food was lovely. I'll definitely pop back to try the main meals, and the ale.

Better night tonight. After my first visit on Monday I popped in again Tuesday for a meal and wine. Ditched the App on this visit. Good service at the bar, they remembered my drink order; more of a convivial atmosphere the further into the establishment you venture - the bar area I guess you'd call it.
