The Old Well Inn in County Durham

Just passing through the town on way back from Hamsterley forest we ordered food and had a soft drink we came in as a party of about 11 of us including kids and a dog made welcome and food was loverly nice friendly staff unfortunately we couldn't stop for the entertainment as had to drive back home will pop back in if we ever pass through again

Very clean. Good size bedroom. I would have preferred a bath instead of the shower. Extra large, comfortable bed, lots of drawers and lots of hanging space too. Everything in the room worked and was in good condition.Staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Scrambled eggs were the best I have ever tasted. The hot drinks machine offered a wide variety of coffees and chocolate. There was also a nice variety of teas available. I will definitely stay again.

We called in here for an early evening drink on a Friday and were made welcome with our dog. Soon there were quite a few people in there with dogs and the bar staff were pleasant and helpful. Drink prices were very reasonable - had a Timothy Taylor's Landlord and a Carling. Also serves food but we did not try, however one couple near us had the Indian platter and it looked really nice.

Old Well Inn - nice real ales. Quite different as it is long and thin with great pictures on the walls. Doubles as a hotel and restaurant with traditional and Indian cuisine. I liked it very much.

Thank you for accommodating us at short notice. Wonderfully cooked fresh dinner. So glad we stumbled across this place

The service in here was outstanding and the Indian platters were to die for, great place to just sit and unwind with company and a pint, but don't forget the platters

I booked the twin bedroom with en-suite shower room for a winter's mid-week break for myself and a friend. On arrival we were shown to room 3, the twin room. It was lovely. Spacious, warm and fitted out with the most amazing matching furniture. Complementary tea, coffee and biscuits and two large white bath towels and hand towels.The room was quiet, spotlessly clean and fresh. I had asked for breakfast at 9am, but with a weather forecast of impending snow that morning over our route back home via Shap, We skipped breakfast and left at 8am, which was not a minute too soon.Hopefully when I next pass through Barnard Castle, I will have the opportunity to stay again. Highly recommend and good value.

Had Xmas lunch here. Was lovely. Staff polite and friendly. Xmas meal per head more than value for money. Good drinks selection and again price was great. Can't wait to come back. Thumbs up.

Lovely old pub with very good beer. I haven't eaten there, but the food looks good.A welcoming and friendly landlord.If you are looking for good beer in Barnard Castle, then come here.

Loved the Old Well Inn. Great atmosphere, so much character. Clean, but old traditional style and furnishings. Very good food excellent Curry. Service friendly and efficient. Dogs are very welcome, big bonus for us. Live music on some nights, but no problem with noise in the bedrooms. Would most definitely stay again.
