Thorpe Farm Centre in County Durham

Loved the animal rescue and the gift shop but unfortunately the day was ruined by our dining experience.No at table service and long queue to order food. They ran out of fish on good Friday but left the specials board on display and so I had to queue twice as had to go back to the table to get the children to go back to the menu. When it arrived the food was disappointing with a rock hard duet crust on the pie (which, not a pastry pie, was a bowl of meat and gravy with thin crust on top), tasteless pasta and jellied gravy that plopped onto the plate.The lady managing the service was rude and snappy and spoke to the young waiter like he was five years old. Whole experience took almost two hours and was not one I would like to repeat again - such a shame

I like the cafe seating area but this time my meal was not very good. I had steak pie. The pastry was very thick not much meat. It should have been in a dish just with a pie topping. I had the chicken pie last time and it was very nice. Not much choice on the menu. My wife had gammon & chips but the egg yolks were both broken and the last piece of lemon meringue cake was very dry.Staff very nice.

Our first time visiting Thorpe Farm Centre and we were impressed with the cafe/restaurant. The gift shop is quite small but had lots of nice items for sale.

The only good thing to say about Thorpe Park is the flat field caravan are on.The showers are disgusting, we stayed 5 days and the same elastoplast left in the shower was still there when we left today.The shower block could do with a clean an disinfected.There are no covid facilities and all sanitation stations are empty.There is no lighting outside both the gents and ladies toilet so in the dark the visibility is poor.They fail to mention on there web site you are on running parallel with theA66 therefore the traffic noise is horrendous.Also fail to mention with the TV mast down so you have no TV signal.They have a washing up area but the window is broken which dosent look good.We did read the reviews and there where some which didn't give the site a good review, but we decided to go anyway and give the sight a try.On hindsight we should have drove straight passes it.We did speak to other caravan owners and they too didn't have a good thing to say.Although one guy told us the caravan touring site was being faded out as they are focussing on static holiday homes.

Booked for 3 nts and stayed 1. Its a bit bleak. Lumpy pitches and the grass needs cutting. Toilet block better suited to a temporary festival venue, especially the smelly outside chemical disposal sinks and a lock still missing on ladies toilet door( read previous comments from a few weeks ago) Men's showers had a puddle in front of 2 of them which wasn't mopped up, and we saw the cleaner in there. A66 noisy all night of course. Didn't feel safe somehow either. 3 cars, not staying on site, all left together. Didn't have any contact with staff at all, nobody to ask about anything. Definitely not recommend.

Just arrived home after 2 nights at this site we definitely won't be returning. Site is very basic and toilets/showers not very clean at all, I felt like all the campers were forgot about and just put in a field with nothing there apart from a tyre swing hanging from a tree the noise from the road was horrendous got next to no sleep both nights. Staff on departure weren't friendly in the slightest.

we requested a quiet pitch and were given just thatbear in mind the camp site is right on the A66 so traffic noise will be expected. Thorpe Farm is a nice site with a facilities Toilets could do with an upgrade though if im being fussy Overall not bad at all with some nice open spaces for your 4 legged friends good pitches with water is a bonus

We definitely won't be returning.If you don't mind being told you need to go to bed at 11pm by a very rude man (the owner) Actually disgusting the way he spoke to us and my children were present. The toilets were disgusting. Our pitch was right beside the main road, the noise of the road is unbearable. Would not recommend.

Have been looking forward to stopping here for food while travelling to Leeds regularly. We were shown to our table and asked to fill in the track and trace form, no problem with that.We then sat and waited for someone to come and take our order, after 15 minutes of waiting I asked a young member of staff if it was definitely table service, they replied it was and someone would be with us shortly. After another 15 minutes of waiting we left. I understand that they could possibly had staffing issues due to Covid but after asking a member of staff a question and still not being seen to I was very disappointed. Doubt we'll stop off on our regular visits in the future.

Lovely campsite surrounded by trees with lots of space for kids to run around in. Electric and water supplies close by the designated tent bays.It's a roll of the dice as to the quality of the pitch bay with some better than others. Ours was a bit hilly this time, but we've had flatter ones in the past.The facilities are reasonably good overall. However, the showers were out of bounds due to covid. We did feel that something more could have been done on that front, as anyone who camps knows, having access to a shower is fairly vital, so even if they had to create limited access with a higher cleaning regime. Or at the very least a reduced rate to reflect the reduced facilities would have been good.Overall, it's still a good place to pitch up as long as you don't mind roughing it a bit or road noise as it's located within yards of the A66.
