The staff seemed to be watching us all the time. Maybe they are told to do so but it makes the customers feel uncomfortable.

Staying for a few days in barnard castle. We came for an evening meal. Great restaurant, friendly staff, amazing food. Best hunter's chicken I've ever has. Would definitely recommend 👌

Valentines was a recommendation from the landlord of the B&B where we were staying. How right he was. From walking in un-reserved, to leaving; the entire experience was a masterclass in how a restaurant should operate..The excellent and friendly waitress, welcomed us, showed us politely to a vacant table and explained the menu and specials board. There was an amazing choice of drinks and some cocktails, enough choice of meals without being overwhelming, and from our experience, each dish was quite generous, appeared to be freshly prepared and was delicious.The restaurant had covid required separating screens between the tables, and plenty of table cleaning between diners. On a very cold winter's, Wednesday evening, the meal was the highlight of our trip to Barnard Castle.I cannot recommend Valentines highly enough.

Well been here loads of times but now with a dairy allergy it's just brilliant loads to eat and yes a desert to top it off. Just excel at all this team does. Top marks peeps. Value for money every time....

It’s been years since I had a meal at Valentines I was not disappointed. Beautiful meal. Best meal I’ve had at any restaurant before. We were a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed their meals too There was nothing left on anyones plate. Definitely recommend I’ll be going back that’s for sure

Absolutely amazing place. The staff were so friendly (even though they were run off their feet). The food came hot, fast and was delicious. We had the Camembert and mushrooms to start, hunters chicken and scampi for main and then shared a golden nugget cheesecake. Would come back here in a heartbeat - make sure you book!

Friendly staff and fast service. We had the light bites but they were HUGE! The portions here are very generous here. Food was good.

We managed to get a last minute table here, absolutely fantastic!!!! Great atmosphere, really friendly staff and the food is to die for. I can't recommend this place enough.

After 6 months closed we visited Valentines for lunch yesterday. It would have been understandable if things were a little rusty after so long without being open. Nothing could be further from the truth. The food, service and hospitality were as good as ever. The new outside area looks stunning and British weather permitting will add massively to the experience. Its hard to be objective when reviewing a place you love and visit frequently. the simple fact is we choose to go to Valentines because we're treated like friends rather than customers and the food never ever disappoints. Pulled Pork Beefburger was added to the menu yesterday so that was my choice. A worthy addition, highly recommended
