The Royal Thai in Darlington

We have ate at this restaurant every time we are in Darlington. This is one of the TOP THAI restaurants in my wife and I's opinion. My wife is a Thai national and she loves the food and the atmosphere. The owners strive to give their customers a touch of Thai.Awesome 5+ stars all around. Don't change a thing...

The food was OK but overpriced. Service was lacking and very disorganised. Waited an hour for what was essentially what ever the Thai equivalent of Chow Mein is called. And that while the place wasn't even busy. Might be OK if they would get some help in the kitchen and maybe some waiters too while they are at it.

Fantastic authentic home cooked Thai food, food is unique, recipe is original and very similar to restaurants that I visited in Thailand. Very friendly proprietor who cook herself and consistently maintain the quality; you will not be disappointed if you are looking for a real Thai taste.

Recently changed it's name* Tasty Thai food with a good selection of asian beers. Had a tamarind based meal that I haven't seen before which was great. All the usual curries available as well. Prawn crackers weren't Thai crackers which was disappointing and they were a bit soft. All other aspects great, thank you.

Went looking for Thai food, still not quite sure what we found!!Ordered a beef Massaman, yet what I received had the potatoes replaced with sweet potatoes (which were disgusting!), and no peanuts. Overall it had a strange sweet, sickly taste, including caramelised onions. The beef itself was very tender and tasty, however, this was not authentic Thai food.The jungle curry, while very tasty, again wasn't authentic and very oily.Overall, really disappointing. Went looking for an authentic Thai restaurant, yet found one that didn't even have the basics covered. Shame.

What a place to eat! Okay, so that service is a bit slow, but worth the wait. The food is freshly cooked and utterly beautiful, authentic Thai. I'd eat there every day if I could!

I visited this lovely restaurant tonight as a party of 9 . The food was all prepared fresh on site , they proved this as they let us adjust food on the menu to our tastes and were very accommodating in doing so. The food was amazing I cannot recommend enough and the portions are very generous. The staff were really happy helpful and friendly. I wish I could give more than 5 stars honestly can't rate it enough. Can't wait to eat there again.

I called the manager before hand to explain it was our anniversary, they couldn't do enough for us. The table set was stunning. The food was spectacular. Great starters, lovely main meal. They brought us a card and complimentary drink. I was really taken by the hospitality of the management. highly recommended. *****

On other sites this restaurant has been given lower scores so i was a bit dubious at first to try it out. However don't let these negative reviews put you off.I've been to the Royal Thai about 8 times now and each time the food and the staff have been great. I've also been to the buffet they have on Sundays 3 times and it's great for that "all you can eat" experience. Good selection of food and topped up often.If you like Chinese food and are looking for something similar, you should definitely try Thai food, you won't be disappointed.
