East Ocean in Gateshead

It used to be good under Julie and family but is now terrible. Too many mistakes in the orders and the chef needs sacking. The curry and gravy are abysmal and I'm sure we were massively overcharged 3 weeks ago (Feb 2022) but there was no menu on display to confirm it. The chicken fried rice was inedible. Portion sizes are smaller too.

The food was a soggy, sludgy mess. No egg in the egg fried rice and it had to be cooked again when it arrived. Freezing cold and sickly. Highly recommend to order elsewhere.

Must be new owners as not chinese cooks on two occasions I've been delivered wrong item this time went to shop to be greater by a very aggressive cook claiming I was wrong again when explained I had purchased many times before that I was once again wrong the staff are very rude and the food was terrible this shop has gone down hill would never recommend or order again

I’ve given East Ocean several chances since its takeover, but last weeks food was the final straw. I will not be going back. Since takeover, the food quality (we’ve tried several different dishes) and quantity has taken a huge hit. The foolish management are putting profit first, and hoping customers won’t notice.• Food is clearly left to sit around longer before pickup/delivery, often cold and not fresh tasting.• The food portions are much smaller.• The dishes ingredients have been altered to cut costs.Last week for example we ordered Sweet & Sour Chicken, fried rice, Chili Salt & Pepper chips. We called to order 10 minutes before collection at approx 9:30.The chili chips used to come in a good sized paper bag. Management have cut this to a small polystyrene tray. The rice was cold, and the chicken balls were noticeably smaller. The worst thing was that the batter was raw in the middle resulting in the chicken being covered in slime.Just as Roma used to be decent but is now terrible, East Ocean has gone the same way.Avoid, and use the Chinese Takeaways down the bank.

Always had good food until tonight...our son's plain noodles came in a bashed up tiny carton ... When I called they said that's the portion ...ERM not previously...always received had a decent size and no attitude... Sadly we won't be recommending or using you again.... Son is a very hungry teenager

If I could have left no stars review I would.Ordered via uber eats,confirmed delivery for 16:25pm.Phoned East Ocean at 17:15pm to find out where order was to be told we are really busy and there is nothing we can do.Then proceeded to hang up on me.Food arrived at 17:30pm and was cold.The chicken in the curry was over cooked and very dry.Will not be ordering again from here.

Ordered the same food as usual delivery was quick as usual. Food stone cold, and chow mein was soggy with what looked like dirty dish water almost no noodles the king prawn chilli chicken is usually very tasty a nice crunch to the veg and able to taste each item, but this time veg was soggy and no taste as too hot and prawns not fully cooked. Egg fried rice had zero egg and also stone cold.When contacting to explain, the chef says he will get on to the farmer and that people just want a free meal which was never asked for.

Disgusting, gone down hill since it was taken over, the previous owners were fantastic and it was a great Chinese, not so much now, if you do order from east ocean, be sure to stock up on toilet roll. You’ll need it 👍

Since being taken over by Roma pizza next door it's gone down hill . Ordered my usual house special fryed rice ..it was disgusting the rice was over cooked and it was clagged together in one big guwie mess. Spoke to the owner and he didnt care .he just laughed..wont be using them again and will be staying away from roma pizza also..

Just moved to the area and tried east ocean twice. I think its one of the best Chinese takeaways I have had! Salt and pepper chips are to die for. Can't wait to have it again already!!
