Excellent food but service was poor.Waited too long for our order to be taken and then he was not concentrating and only took the orders for 3 of the 4 of us before trying to leave. We had lovely starters but then had to wait for about 45 minutes before mains. When these arrived there were side orders missing which we had to chase.A drinks order was taken at the start but despite our glasses being empty no-one noticed and offered us the opportunity to buy more. There appeared to be more than enough staff for the number of customers and it wasn't particularly busy, so we were left a little disappointed overall.

Went to the Bowes Incline for dinner or lunch depending on where your from. Very nice inside, well set out and tables were spaced out. Main menu, light meal menu and a kids menu are on offer. Kids meals are homemade aswell. Not frozen fish fingers from the packet as you find in some places. Top class food. You could tell there were real chefs working the kitchen. Would highly recommend the fish and chips. Probably wear some loose trousers as the fish is a whopper!Price wise, probably a couple of quid more than average but well worth it. Good selection on drinks. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Football on in the bar discreetly for the sports fans.Overall, well worth a look in. 👍

Our son Mark had booked a surprise nights stay for mine and steves wedding anniversary. All 3 of us had a great meal last night. The room Steve and I stayed in was beautifully laid out very comfortable bed, no noise from the motorway at all great nights sleep. Great breakfast, which was included with the room. Choice of a cooked breakfast, toast, cereal, fruit juice. All in all a great stay thanks to Becky, Beth, Dee and all the staff, I will definitely be recommending the Bowes incline to friends and family.

Food is always top notch! Amazing choice and huge portions for price. Staff are fantastic, nothing to much trouble. Rooms are newly refurbished, comfy beds, everything you need is provided.

·

Lovely little pub restaurant, staff were very friendly. The food was okay but nothing special in my opinion however the portion size definitely made up for that.I'd say the prices were definitely adequate for the quality and size.Over all wasn't a bad experience and lovely place to visit.

Excellent food. Not a lot of atmosphere though. Felt rushed to leave by the staff who were starting to cash up just after ten. Recommend food but I wouldn't go back.

Had the most amazing starter. Haggis and Black Pudding Stack with peppercorn sauce. Hands down the nicest thing I've ever tasted. Will definitely be returning

Just come back from a three night stay at the hotel. Very comfortable rooms and although quite close to the A1, very quiet too.We met up with family and friends and ate at the restaurant. We had eaten here before, food is tasty with a good selection for everyone ( my partner is a vegetarian ). I finally got to sample their famous Steak and Kidney Pudding, it always sells out, absolutely fabulous, but be prepared, its huge !!We normally stay elsewhere when ' up north ', but we will be making The Bowes Incline our first choice.

Great covid measures. Fantastic choice for all purses and efficient and very friendly service. Food was well presented and delicious. Gutted as after 2 courses was too full to try the desserts. Definitely next time.
