The Waggon Inn in Gateshead

Food was lovely nice and hot id come again but my friends says portion size for a large wasn't enough as they felt hungry still .Staff were brilliant. busy for a Sunday

Food was nice, but very dissapointed that we asked if we could bring a cake as it was Mum's 95th Birthday. We booked for 1pm, asked for the cake to be brought out for dessert, we were told kitcken was very busy, so when cake hadn't arrived by 2.30pm we just took the cake & brought it home. If kitchen was that busy I dread to think how long we would have waited for 2 desserts, all that kitchen had to do was put candles on & bring it out

Long time since our last visit but still excellent menu staff very helpful and friendly. Will be back next week fantastic.

Food was great, thoroughly recommend the gammon steak, personal choice was with egg, although can have egg or pineapple or both. The Heineken Ice cold was exactly that and nice and refreshing. Polite, friendly staff, service was good so what more can you want

Had a birthday dinner here with the family and friends. Most had either steak or chicken with a creamy leak sauce. Really enjoyed the food. Good service from friendly staff. The only bad point with The Waggon was the drinks were quite expensive.

We used to come here a lot many years ago and we thought we would give it a try. Although the steak and kidney pie was as amazing as I remembered it was, the wife did not enjoy her homemade curry very much at all. Comparing it to an Asda jar. J would definitely go back, the wife not so much.

Took my daughter here for tea , ordered chicken Kiev which looked and tasted no better than the ones from Aldi it came with a measly portion of frozen chips and a tablespoon of garden peas , my daughter had chilli con carne which again looked and tasted like a microwave meal …. Absolute Rip Off !!!£24 including 2 soft drinks , do yourself a a favour and just go to Aldi and cook it yourself, save yourself £20

Table booked for 4pm , still waiting at 5.30, supposed to be table service……. Not, went to the bar, staff were talking and was ignored, food arrived, no taste what so ever, absolutely diabolical! Won’t be going back.

Oh what a devastating plummet from the usual high standard. This pains me to write this but I felt I had to put pen to paper in the hope the management will read and address the issues. Arrived and stood at the podium waiting to be greeted and seated ... And waited... And waited... Finally got seated, ordered drinks and perused the menu... Drinks arrived promptly and we were told we have a couple of minutes before our order was taken...20 minutes later I went to the bar to order food to be told (albeit apologetically) that we had been forgotten about. Ordered the starters only to be told they are no longer available (but still on the menu?). Ordered two more which were passable. 25 minutes later I was told the chef had mistaken my butterflied chicken with Cajun sauce and coleslaw for chicken wrap and salad (?). I reluctantly accepted the alternative. My wife ordered the mixed grill, which when it arrived had morphed into pork chop and chips. This was replaced 10 minutes later with the mixed grill. The salad covered about a third of the plate, the coleslaw another third. The wrap (cut into two) was packed with a couple of strips of flavoured chicken and salad (yes, even more salad). The mixed grill... Undercooked sausage, mushrooms and egg, Gammon burnt on one side (that side on the plate to hide the fact it was burnt). We had a couple of token forkfuls and let the rest. The waitress was crestfallen when she saw the plates but still asked if we'd enjoyed our meal, the response being an emphatic NO! she passed on our remarks to the chef and we received a discount. A thoroughly bad experience from start to finish. On the upside, couldn't fault the staff.

Over an hour wait time for food, pretty sure they were forgotten about until reminded. When it arrived the contents were clearly from a bag of processed cheese and chicken which was not even fold properly so when picked up all the contents fell out.Excuse was that there were many orders in the pub for the grill, wasn't too busy and only one of our orders needed the grill. Once reminded the food suddenly appeared in 5 minutes.
