Brewers Fayre Old West Quay in Hartlepool

Honestly I don't understand why this place has so good reviews? The food tonight was disgusting. Everything fried in old oil which hasn't been changed in months! You taste the battered scampi and you want to vomit. Fries were dark brown and hard to chew - clearly that's not normal!! I understand its pub food and most things are reheated from frozen, but this was just money thrown down the drain. Never again.

Lovely food very clean pub and really friendly staff who will go out of their way to make your stay welcome x this was the size of the fish(whale) was beautiful my mam said

Well..the staff are excellent ..can not fault..top..however..the food was on this instance poor..for us...over cooked..deep fried.dark brown chips..dark battered fish.with soggy inner batter..starter of brie bites that were hollow due to?.Rock hard crust..questioned the oil quality it was cooked in.. its a shame on this first visit..it was poor..we didn't complain though...the staff were fantastic nice..its a nice place..just the food on our visit.

Good, wholesome breakfast, all you can eat and plenty of choice.Good pub grub in the evening.Staff are very helpful and friendly, even when dealing with the odd awkward customer.Atmosphere is welcoming with nice pictures and interesting decorations.Will definitely be back next year.

I'm being a little generous with 2 stars as this experience may have been a one-off. I might have just caught them on a bad day.A large group of us (12 adults, 1 child) booked a couple of weeks in advance of attending. The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived. We ordered at the bar in a single order to try to keep things simple. There were about 5 people who ordered starters and then a main for everyone. The starters arrived very quickly but we then had to wait about an hour for the mains to come out. The food was ok-ish for some cheap grub but certainly not worth the wait.The front counter staff were trying to be helpful but it appeared that whoever was in the kitchen just couldn't cope with providing food for a restaurant of this size even when it was almost empty. My guess would be that the chain is trying to keep labour costs to the absolute minimum but this is very much to the detriment of customers.I can't imagine a situation where I would eat here again in the future as there are some much better places nearby on the marina.

We were staying at the Premier inn next door and went here twice.First was a quick snack of Chicken wings and chips, nice enough for a pub chain.We also had buffet breakfast here, it's £9.50 and nice enough. Minor complaint of no black pudding but other than that it was all good.

I know places like this are suffering from staffing problems but if it effects the service so much why open at all?Enter the building. Totally ignored by several waiters for around 10 mins. Given a not so friendly welcome then took to a table. The restaurant was almost empty ( I should have got the warning signs by now)Almost totally empty restaurant and we get the table closest to the only other people in the place.Where are the menus? There is none on this table.Service like it seems everywhere now. Painfully slow. Food average at best. Prices higher all the time.Brewers fayre you used to be okay, it feels like you are one step away from closing down.

Ate here in both the evening and morning.Burgers were very nice, everything was priced fairly and was very moreish. The refill drinks machine didn't always give you what you wanted but no particular complaints as it was nice anyway.The breakfast bar was absolutely perfect and at first seems pricey at almost £10 however you can eat anything and everything so justifies itself.

Restaurant was very clean, staff were very pleasant, if you know what Brewers serve up, you know your not going because it's quality food, but it will fill a hole, location is it's best asset as it looks out across the docks

Outside and inside seating facing the docks , very spacious, felt safe and clean inside, nice for drinks but I got chicken tikka masala and it was ok for a microwave meal !! It was rank and not worth the money at all !!
