Golden Fry in Newcastle upon Tyne

I am changing my review it has improved sausage and chips are well good and no funny looking chips in sight.

PLEASE AVOID - ESPECIALLY IF YOU FEEL OUR COMMUNITY IS WORTH MORE AND DESERVES SOMETHING BETTER!!Absolutely awful - would not even give it 1 star! I live close by, but don't use it often due to it's poor quality and often unfriendly staff. The last time I was there we had to throw it away because the grease from the fish was running out of the bag. I did not go for several years, however, I went today because my friend was desperate for fish and chips. The owner was rude and aggressive because I queried the price - nearly £I4 for two suppers?! I received a torrent of abuse not just from himself, but the other chap serving joined in too. The owner came from around the counter and shouted in my face! I won't repeat what was said and needless to say I ended up walking out of the shop only to be followed by him until I went into the neighbouring Co-op. The staff there asked me if I was alright because I was clearly shaken and you could see him outside! Shocking, vile and disgusting behaviour! This has been reported to the police and I now understand why the shop is always empty.

It's not often that I feel the need to put a review on these notice boards but having seen the lies and complete bull**** put on two reviews last night I have no choice.Standing ar the doorway of the golden fryer I specifically heard the woman in front ask for smokey and chips, as the owner went to ring it into the till I heard him saying that would be £1.60 for the smokey and £1.80 for the chips making it £3.40. The woman accused the owner of ripping her off and that she has always only paid £1.60 for smokey and chips, the owner tried to point out the prices listed clearly about the counter showing the prices. £1.60 for a smokey and £1.80 for the chips but shouting at the top of her voice and being both abusive and agressive to the own she left the shop and went into the co-op next door.Not once during this did the owner get agressive or nasty, he did come around the counter just to see where she went but no other reason. I asked the owner to make me up one of his chicken curries (the best curry around believe me I travel around trip of near 20 miles for one), whilst he was doing the curry I nipped next door to get some bread. Surprise surprise there was the woman who had been screaming like a banshee kicking off because her son had been caught shop lifting...really, the co-op staff more in fear of the woman than anything else let them go.I thought that was the end of that until earlier tonight I was looking up the number on Google to phone through and order only to see that their rating had dropped quite a bit. So I decided to have a look why, now every shop will occasionally get things wrong but I have to say in the more than 10 years since I've been going the food has always been excellent and the service to be superb. If anything on my order was incorrect due to a genuine mistake it was always changed without an argument or any hassle even if it was days later.To then see and read a number of one star ratings I was shocked, however when I realised it was the woman and her friends getting their own back all because the owner refused to sell here the smokey and chips for less then the price listed and the price I clearly heard the owner tell her. I found it disgusting, I'am not a friend of the owner or related to them but I have seen them work everyday of the week very very long hours to build this business up and to see it trashed by nothing but lies....for the sake of some low life trying to cheat the owner out of a £1.80 bag of chips. To the woman and her so called friends ( who have never worked a day in their lives and who are the absolute epitome of the word scum) you should be ashamed of yourself as what you have done is nothing more than absolutely disgusting. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion however when that is based on pure lies I hope that anyone reading this will take this woman's opinion and ignore it.I can say with total honesty and integrity this shop in my opinion is certainly one of the best if not the best chips shop around and believe you me I should know I've tried most of them in my life time. You will not get a better kebab or chilli sauce anywhere and the chicken curry is seriously to die for, they have a five star rating and having worked as hard as they have they deserve it. If you don't believe me go and try it, their always busy but it's worth the wait and you can put your own review on here.To the trolls who have tried to destroy an honest family business that has served the local community for many years, I will be reporting your lies to google and I hope they not only remove your lies but close you accounts as your nothing but disgusting scum.

If I could give zero stars I would! Chips were practically floating in many bones found in cod despite repeated reassurances that all fish served were boneless. Ended up throwing in the bin would not return to this shoddy establishment if you paid me.

This is always been perfectly tasty when I have visited, unfortunately they are now closed until early March 2019. They offer a large range of meal deals probably aimed at the school kids so available during the day, and giving good offers on smaller portions or portions for two and so on.

AVOID THIS PLACE. I agree with the previous review absolutely awful got fish & chips last night had to bin them. The fish was soggy and the chips were black. Now I know why it is always quiet.

Received a call to apologise that they were running 10 mins late and then told they had put a free pizza in for inconvenience ( which was great fully received from my kids) . Haddock was beautiful, chicken nuggets perfect, chips amazing ...couldn't fault it!! Will definitely be back

Lovely food, I have tried lots of different things off of the menu. Chips are fresh, pizza is great and kebab wraps amazing. You can't go wrong ordering from here a real treat.

Very poor. Been here a couple of times out of convenience and have been disappointed both times. Last time I went in I got sausage and chips. The chips were terrible. I believe they had been reheated from the previous day. Rubbish staff and very expensive. 1.65 for crap chips. Only manages to stay open because they get trade from school kids who will eat anything. Avoid.

Went here for something quick before my night shift, looked ok and had lots of deals but the food was absolutely disgusting. I got the 8" deal and the pizza was doughy inside and very greasy on top and overall crap. I got a haggis to go with it which was a nice crisp golden brown outside but not even cooked inside properly what a joke of a takeaway. I would advise nobody to ever eat here unless you want to get very ill. Staff were very unpleasant and when I asked for a receipt she was unhappy she had to write one by hand. What a dismal hole.
