It wasn't clear when booking that this restaurant is in the ground floor of the Indigo hotel. We looked through the window and, despite it being 5.30pm, there were multiple tables in an empty part of the restaurant that hadn't been cleared from lunch. Our first words of welcome were "do you have a booking?" (we did) immediately followed by "have you got a voucher?" (we didn't) - talk about how to make your guests feel special. One of our drinks (a fruit juice) was served in a Pepsi Max glass - this restaurant describes itself as "upscale", but freebie glasses are something you expect in a pub - not a restaurant. The food was okay expect hugely over-salted spinach and the steaks were full of gristle. It was the kind of meal you expect when you order room service in a mediocre hotel - lacking charm, and definitely not value for money. I honestly would have rather eaten at a burger bar that at least doesn't pretend to be "upscale".

I was there yesterday for afternoon tea with friends and it had to be the worst afternoon tea I've had. The sandwiches were dry ( must have been made hours before) we had to ask for cream for the scones and the cakes were definitely not fresh. We were served one glass of prosecco and although we would have liked to have ordered another drink there was no waiter to take our order.

Hotel was dated, food was awful. Steaks were cheap and chewy, the fancy named burger was no better than one from Wetherspoons. Got a gift voucher to spend here and feel it was wasted. Would give it less than one star overall if I could.

It's a shame you can't give zero stars. How small are the portions in this place tiny is being generous. As for the quality of the steak it was cheap and chewy. The service was slow intact I can't say anything positive about this restaurant apart from it may be 2 star at Best. Certainly won't be recommending

Update- something's gone wrong!A disappointing experience, staff were pleasant, although not very effective e.g. I didn't get asked if I wanted a second drink, couldn't catch their eye etc..We were told that they did not have any sauces or condiments other than garlic butter which were gluten free including horseradish and mustard. Quite bizarre in 2022. Desserts? Nope apparently the ice cream has wheat in it!!??? It seems as a brand to have gone downhill, tied into certain supply chains? More of a push from investors for profits?Whatever, we won't be going back anytime soon. Shame____________No nonsense quality.Staff professional, watchful, but not overbearing.Chateaubriand looked initially a little small but was a great cut of steak and filling. Fries and triple cooked chips were done well (basics are important!). Accompanying salad was 'meh' beef toms with herbs were delicious.Puddings were delicious and huge! Easily could halve the portions (and reduce the price slightly). More than we expected for the bill but worth it overall for a treat (£125) for two including wine.

Very disappointed in the food that we have just been served at this restaurant had to send back my steak not very hot and under cooked. Had bread and butter pudding as desert again cold and very under cooked not very nice. Would not recommend this restaurant food poor for a so called 1st class restaurant however I can’t complain about the service.

Afternoon Tea - Small portions and poor quality, I can’t emphasise this enough, TINY portions of poor quality food. Very disappointing!Scones were hard and tastless, sandwiches were not freshly made, and cakes were nothing special. This was purchased via Wowcher as a surprise birthday gift but in my opinion very poor value for money. Would not recommend but the staff were nice and friendly.

I walked in yesterday and asked for table for 2 or take away. There were 2 girls chatting and they said they may have something but then they changed mind. They looked at me like i am not person to dine in. They did not offer bar table or anything and acted like” you are not dressed well for this restaurant “. It is sad because i used to work in this place and love this food as well as climate that is there. Seems like everything is changed in time. Disappointed.

Had a great night and the staff could not do enough for us. Fab rooms lovely bar food and breakfast. Will stay again.

Tiny, I can’t emphasise this enough, TINY portions of poor quality food. Scones had same density and texture of house brick. Very poor value for money. Staff were nice and friendly.
