Northumberland Arms in Newcastle upon Tyne

Visited this place a few times now, very good selection of drinks. Great, friendly staff, highly recommend.

My daughter and myself. Called in at dinner time today. What a lovely place. Lots of old photos not just of newcastle. I like the telephone entrance door. We had the restaurant deal. Two courses for £10. We both had buttermilk battered chicken goujons for starters. I had the flatbread with sausage, cheeses and onion relish. My daughter had the burger and chips. Very filling. Staff are very friendly and attentive. Well done. We will return.

Staff are not to fault as every single staff member was bubbly and amazing. But for what the food was and the cocktail are. I was shocked at the price! We felt ripped off and again staff did everything to make us feel comftable and welcome but it's definitely a pricey venue compared to other locations

Sadly looking at the menu, like many restaurants and establishments in town, it doesn't appear to cater for people like me who have certain dietary requirements (medically based not fussiness). Shame that a lot of places are missing out on custom all because they can't/don't offer a few small alternatives so people like me could have an option to eat there. Their loss I guess. I'll happily stay at home and make my own. Saves me money in the long run.

A very nice place, hidden below ground, behind the secret telephone box door. Nice staff...haven't tried food yet, but plan to in the near future. Great for cocktails, but a tad pricey...could do with some happy hours...I think they may for Prosecco??

Its a nice little basement bar with a cool decor and a nice selection of drinks.Unfortunately, the food was sub-par. The fried food was over-done and rock hard. The rest of the food wasn't that great either and didn't justify the price. I hope they can improve because this bar does have a lot of potential.

Quiet basement pub in the centre of Newcastle. Attentive staff table service. Easily missed but worth a look if you want to escape from shopping. Food menu available.

Great venue with lovely staff! My only issue was with the menu. I decided to choose the USA style pancakes which is described as a ‘heavenly fluffy pancake stack’. Unfortunately I received the complete opposite. They were flat, limp and very burnt crepes. This was such a disappointment as I wouldn’t have ordered them if I had known. The rest of the group enjoyed their food and the drinks were great. I’d just amend the wording on the menu to help manage expectations

A good bar in the middle of Northumberland Street, if you don't know it, it's easy to pass. Used to be, Northumberland Arms then, the Purple Bear. Been given another make over with the deco but otherwise the same, still must do good food as always a good few in for a drink and something to eat.

Excellent theme, great food and drink options and a lovely comfortable atmosphere. The crowning jewel was the staff, both the manager and waitresses provided an above and beyond service, way above the expected. Would 100% recommend!
