"The Poacher's Pocket is a Family pub located only 2 minutes drive from the Metro Centre Gateshead in Whickham. Dog friendly, free parking and children welcome. We have have 2 large beer gardens and a play area for the kids. Homemade food served daily with a great selection of beers and wines to choose from. We also have a cocktail menu and varied entertainment."

Went for a Sunday dinner with my wife,daughter and 22 year old son.As I was getting drinks to have with our dinner a female staff member who wasn't serving me butted in and told me my son wasn't allowed a beer with his dinner as he had no I.d.Very poor customer service.We then went and enjoyed a dinner and a beer elsewhere.

Excellent food, will definitely be going back. The food took a little while to come as they were busy, not a criticism, just make sure you have things to keep little ones occupied with. The staff were lovely as well. Well worth the 5 stars

Lovely staff and quick service, all 4 meals were hot and cooked to perfection. Dessert was also quick and clear up service was friendly and fast. Wouldn't hesitate to return again ASAP

Can not fault this place. Been a few times now and I'm always impressed! Friendly and professional staff. Beautiful food in a beautiful pub.Highly recommend!

My husband and I visited on the 23rd of December we had the Christmas Fayre menu which was fantastic the service was brilliant, the food was lovely and hot but unfortunately we could not eat all of our main meal due to there being so much of it but what we had was fantastic and so tasty we have decided that we will be going back and hopefully working our way through the menu well done to all the staff for their hard work.

Cosy surroundings though not squashed in. Food was faultless - mixed grill was of a generous size (as were ALL meals). Very happy with the prices given the size of our plates. Attentive staff without being in your face. Our party soon agreed we'd be back again - and we will!

Nice little pub (its quite big really) tucked away up a country road, obviously been a favourite of the locals and people who are prepared to drive for something to eat because it has survived so long. I would say it's worth a try and you'll come away with two eyes 👀 intact.
