Exceptional breakfast. An excellent way to start the day. Scones were not bad either. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We have been here a few times for random drinks while walking our dog and sat outside. It was always nice. However today we went for Sunday lunch. We got there 1 hour before lunch was finished. We were sat at a table and left alone. We had to ask to place an order for drinks and our food. Upon ordering we were told straight away that they had no roast potatoes. This was fair enough and we agreed to carry on anyway. We placed our order and then 5 mins went by. Two of the 4 drinks turned up and then we were advised that the two soft drinks may not be coming because the machine was broken. We waited another 10 mins and then we’re advised that the soft drinks won’t be coming and we had to order something differentSo we ordered another beer and a cider. Unfortunately our 18 year old son didn’t have his ID so they refused and he had to have water as no soft drinks were available. The food was average. Cold vegetables and the meat was chewy. Service was very poor and lots of people walking around looking busy when the place was half full.Disappointing after hearing so many good reviews

Outstanding! Decided to have breakfast here while on a walk around the marina. We got two of the large breakfasts (which are impressively large). Stunning value and prepared comfortably fast. We had our dog with us, so needed to be seated outsiders, which does have great views. Really enjoyed it and will definitely be back again!

We have been here lots of times before and loved it, however today was very poor by comparison. The young lady who greeted us was very nice and attentive, however the waitress ignored us and served other patrons who sat next to us and whom entered afterwards. (not just one group). We gained the attention of another young waitress who again took our orders and was very friendly. When we went to order we were told that what we wanted was not available due to the ovens not working, again this was fine so we ordered a different selection, which was nice.To finish off we wanted some ice cream for our grandchild who was with us, again we were told that there was none at all available. So in essence, very poor service by the initial waitress and poor options available compared to what’s on the menu.As a foot note most of the free parking has been removed (most probably by the land owner and not the Lock’s itself) and is payable for the time you stay in that location. Will be be back, unfortunately not, not when there are so many other options nearby at North Shields Fish Quay and Tynemouth.

Just called in to have a coffee and a look around. It was a cold, wet December day so straight inside in the warm. A view all round of the marina so everyone has something to look at. Table service with plenty of staff so not a long waiting time. We'll have to go back on a warm sunny day to sit outside and select the boat I'll buy when I win the lottery. They do breakfasts until 11-45 for the early birds then the lunch menu. Definitely a good local place to try.

The LockCafe Bar & Restaurantis a lovely place! We have just been for our breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it!The young gentleman who is the front of house host was very polite and welcoming and the Lady who served us was wonderful and helpful! The place is well kept, clean and fresh. We ordered:1. Smashed avocado on toast with Greek feta, fresh chilli, spring onion and coriander.2. The Lock’s full English breakfast. Which included; Cumbrian sausage, back bacon, Egg (cooked to your instructions) hash browns, Portobello mushroom, roasted tomato, beans, black pudding and whole grain seeded toast.Verdict: They use good quality ingredients, the food was very fresh with generous portions! The tomatoes were a bit watery, perhaps they could have been cooked longer, allowing them to caramelise. The avocado toast had a great amount of chilli but there could have been half the amount of feta and that would have made it perfect!Overall we would definitely recommend The Lock and we will definitely be visiting again!✔️Lovely location✔️Great quality ingredients✔️Hospitality is on point

It was my first visit today and ordered the Mexican Chicken Flatbread and Scampi. The food was lovely and the portion size was huge. Lovely views onto the Marina while dining and great service from the staff. I Will definitely be visiting again soon.
