Upon entry, with our baby in our arms we were met by a rude staff member who said "guess you'll want to sit in, not wearing a mask". I said I was exempt but we'd wear one but she just said I should have been wearing an exempt badge and there were signs everywhere. No one in the cafe was wearing a mask and she was wearing hers dangling from one ear whilst standing in our faces when telling us off. We left immediately feeling upset and annoyed that we were spoken to so rudely. I'm glad the Arboretum doesn't run the cafe and that it lifted our spirits afterward.

Adequate at best - there is such potential here in the surroundings of the house and gardens for the cafe to be a go-to destination for the local area - coffees and snacks for locals and visitors alike. Just needs some love and some new ideas and the tea rooms could be great again and live up to the wonderful back story..

Scones were very nice, but we waited a long time to be acknowledged at the door, and so did other people. No atmosphere in the tearoom either. All in all a very average experience unfortunately

·

Super scones and lovely carrot cake to accompany cups of Earl Grey tea. Very quick and friendly service. Lovely views of the waterlillies.

·

Excellent service lovely surroundings

·

A lovely tea rooms and feelsnlike something special. The earl grey for 2 came with aditional hot water so plenty of it. Prices for sandwiches were on the pricier side (cost extra for the salad and crisps) but the brie and cranberry toastie was very tasty and welcome on a chilly day. Staff were quick to clean tables and have a one way system so felt well covid managed.

This is a great tea room at the home of Earl Grey tea, Howick Hall. Good selection of well prepared food is available. The grounds of the house and arboretum are stunning

·

Fabulous gardens and landscapes, stretching for miles between Alnwick and the coast, and of course lovely tea rooms and cakes.

·

Lovely long walk in the gardens and grounds of this house. Authentic planting and historical interest. Perhaps could do with modernisation to add interest for younger visitors and allow for a more interactive experience of the surroundings.

Food looked lovely but we sat waiting to be served for some time with no acknowledgement . Staff seemed to be unaware of us waiting and went to serve another party who came in after us. We left and went elsewhere.
