5 star Sunday roast. Loads of great options, amazing steak pie (tray with puff pasty which is hard to come by) and traditional roasts looked good too. Quick friendly service, well priced. I'm here on holiday and already planning my next trip back for round 2!!

Sat out in the spacious beer garden on big comfy leather chairs and enjoyed a drink. Had a glance at the food menu and it was offering better options that what we had already decided on. So we stayed. The lobster bisque was exactly how it should be, I know this because it's how I used to make it. Then I had a mixed grill, and though the steak component was overcooked, it was still excellent. It even had liver on it. Wifey for the minced beef and dumpling. Perfect Saturday lazy eating home comforting food. Good size portions too, we couldn't finish all the chips and veg. Prices are as standard these days so no surprises. All in all a great experience.

On holiday in this area my wife & I wanted to dine somewhere nice as it was my birthday, picked the Cook & Barker. It was a great choice. Couldn't believe how busy it was on a Tuesday evening (mostly oldies, like ourselves). The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, the food was excellent and great value too. I've no hesitation in recommending here.

Food was absolutely amazing and fantastic value. Best pub meal in have had for a very long time. Taste was great, served on really hot plates. Food served by excellent staff and timed to perfection.

Didn't use the pub itself, just the hotel side. Room was a reasonable size, clean, good quality linen & beautiful thick curtains. I also appreciated having a long mirror. Bed was reasonably comfortable, but consisted of 2 single mattresses pushed together. This meant there was a very hard ridge down the middle and therefore it would have been better with a mattress topper to prevent that. Unfortunately the tea/coffee facilities were poor. The kettle was too big for the sink & therefore needed filling via the bath, which meant manoeuvring around the shower screen. The kettle also had a filter, which needed filling twice. The teacups were too small for a whole sachet of coffee, mugs would have been better. Also, there was not enough milk or sugar supplied, plus only 1 pack of biscuits. A little stingy I think. We looked for more supplies in the cupboard in the hall, but no luck. TV didn't have many channels. Only 1 bedside table & lamp. Other side had a round coffee table & no plug socket. Just little niggles that can be easily rectified.

For a friendly Inn with excellent service and an exceedingly fine menu this is a must visit venue. We often think the Michelin guide folk aren't aware that places like this exist as so far north. Far superior to many "Michelin" we have not returned to. Regrettably being a considerable distance from home we are rarely able to visit more than twice a year. However never missed going whenever in Northumberland.Standard always consistent and never disappointing.

A friend of had told me about this establishment returning home from Alnwick at lunch time we popped in on the off chance the restaurant looked full we were given a table in the bar area next to the lovely open fire. We opted for the 2 course set menu at £14 the food was very well presented and tasty the staff were excellent polite and efficient will definitely be going back.

Found this place by searching for top rated restaurants nearby via Google maps. Arrived and it was a little busy right at the start of Sunday lunch time. Was greeted and offered to have drinks at the bar until a table was ready as we did not have a table reserved. The staff were great, the decor very cozy, warm and fitting for the countryside views and surroundings. The food was absolutely amazing, everything was high quality, plated well and the portion sizes meant nobody was going to leave anything but full. Will definitely return here next time I'm in Northumberland.

Nowhere near 5 star...shoved us in at a table that obviously couldn't accommodate the pram we had with us for my 6 month old. Portions were measly to say the least and ridiculously overpriced. The good tasted nice, but instead of trying to make it look like an art installation, they should focus on value for money and actually put some of the food on the plate
