We had a lovely meal at The Queen's Head. Rothbury in mid March 2022. Despite the rather bleak exterior it feels welcoming and intimate once inside. The menu is basically standard pub-grub but is freshly prepared, well presented and very tasty. My Tikka Masala was better than many that I have had in Indian restaurants and my partner declared her chicken meal to be delicious. The staff were very friendly, kind and attentive.Recommended.

Friendly and helpful staff. We were fortunate when we turned up to get a table in the restaurant. I would recommend that you book a table in advantage. The food and drinks are good quality and tasty. The food is reasonably priced.

After a fantastic visit to Cragside, a friend and I stopped in Rothbury for a coffee and snack yesterday afternoon, Sunday 17th October. We entered the Queens Head, despite not having a reservation and asked if we might have a hot drink and a snack (tea / coffee and cake). Apparently being a Sunday, they only did Sunday lunch, having explained we really only wanted a slight snack and drink, it was agreed that we might have those, but as we were not ordering lunch, we could sit in the corner!I did joke to my friend that we were definitely the 'townies' as the staff seemed to know everyone else in the room. Taking our order, we did order a tea, coffee and two pieces of cake and two glasses of water. Not the greatest service in the world and despite trying to catch the eye of the waiting staff, we were out of luck, the glasses of water never did appear.Whilst I appreciate that we were not locals, however if you advertise outside your establishment that you provide food and drink, it is probably not too much to expect to receive those things. Finally to the young long haired, blond waitress, either tie your hair back or do not keep running your fingers through your hair when you are serving food.

Angus the bar manager showed us to our room which was clean and fresh, small fridge in our room which was a bonus. Bar staff very friendly, no evening meals on a Sunday, we had to go to the bakery next door for our first breakfast which was very nice. Evening meal next night limited choices and not very big portions but ok. The landlord is trying hard. We enjoyed our stay which was very near to Cragside a National Trust property and gardens, would recommend visiting here if your in this area.

Very friendly welcome from the staff. Had not booked and took a chance on a table being free and staff went out of their way to find us a table. Lovely pub with excellent value food and drink on the menu. Great menu with lots of options. Had the steak burger with bacon, very filling and tasty. Chips were excellent. Black Sheep beer was great. Will definitely recommend and return.

Pub is in a lovely location with a great drive from the A1 if coming from the North with some fantastic views. Food itself was the Sunday menu and it was 'OK, no veggie option advertised inside the pub and when requested based on the menu on the website it was out of stock. The sausages were offered as a replacement but then when it arrived the rest of the veg trimmings did not so, it was a not a like for like replacement.Food was decent enough for the priceSome desserts were also out of stock which was a shame, but the Crumble that was available went down very well.

A wonderful welcome to the town!We arrived for the first day of a short break just in dinner time and looking back I am glad we found The Queens Head.Sanitisers were available by the door and customers were encouraged to clean hands before walking in the restaurant. We have guided a table for 4 and tables had dividers strategically place to maintain social distancing.A wide selection of traditional British dishes was available on the menu. There was also a specials menu which the staff could have made us aware of but we weren’t disappointed by the food we ordered. We decided to take for all of our food to come together and ordered creamy mushrooms, portion chips, chicken strips which with a portion of chips with its self and chicken with haggis cooked in peppercorn sauce, and all of the food was just delicious. The creamy sauce with mushroom was memorable, chicken strips were freshly cooked and well battered. It was the first timemy daughter was having haggis, and she absolutely loved it. Along with all the great food, the chips felt ordinary. The dessert is what made me give 5-star for my rating. I have yet to a rocky road which melts in the mouth, disappointed I didn’t order that for myself and had to rely on my daughters will to share her delicious dessert. I ordered Biscoff Cheesecake, which was one of a kind too and comes highly recommended. If you are in town, don’t leave without eating here.

Excellent staff, clean room, very dog friendly. I was in room 9 twin ensuite clean well stocked. Would have rated higher had the towel rail heated up to make room warm for a shower and the window had closed properly so no draft came in. Bit chilli to have a shower. The bedroom window was similar. Lots of draft. I would book again if no other options. I didn't draw the staffs attention to the 2 issues I had. I think it was very obvious that the windows need replacement. Lovely fabric on the breakfast chair
