Over priced for what it is!Stayed for one night with my boyfriend as a getaway for my birthday and we were both really disappointed. We had expected to stay in the hall itself but we were lead outside of the hall into the grounds to an outbuilding with a corridor of rooms, this was not advised upon booking or anywhere on the website and If we had known the rooms weren't in the actual hall we wouldn't have booked.Room was outdated, dusty and in need of some work.  There was a picture missing from the wall the hook had been left and we could see the outline of discoloration in the wallpaper from where it had been, there were bugs in the room on arrival and the beds ..... awful, we booked a double room and ended up with 2 single beds pushed together, I kept falling down the gap inbetween them and they were really uncomfortable, we got a minimal amount of sleep and ended up with sore backs the morning after, also the walls are really thin, we heard guests 2 rooms away laughing and talking and then snoring during the night. We were grateful there was a TV but it is the size of a postage stamp, I have problems with my vision and I had to sit on the end of the bed to watch it.We had bar food on the Saturday evening which was overpriced, greasy and generally not enjoyable.Breakfast on Sunday wasn't much better, we had to ask for glasses for the juice and infact the juice to be filled up, we both opted for the full English but had both asked for things to be left off and we didn't like them, the breakfasts came without the items but also mine also had additional stuff missing, there was also shell in my egg. We ended up leaving the majority of our breakfast as it was just unpleasant. The staff were lovely but not very informative, we had to ask multiple questions that should have been general information on checking in.Unfortunately we will not be returning or recommending this hotel

We stayed for a 3 night break in June and loved this hotel. Room in the annex with decking was superb, food in the restaurant was delicious and all the staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful.

Had a 2night stay. Arrived early which was not a problem. Met by cheerful staff. Shown to room. Had everything you'd expect in hotel rooms. Great view through patio doors. Comfy bed and 2 chairs. Room well maintained clean and comfortable, even an alarm clock. Did not have breakfast, evening meals were well cooked and presented although the menu was a bit limited. Bar well stocked. All staff were welcoming and helpful.

On arrival our first room was disappointing, the shower rail was hanging off the wall, we got moved to the room next door. It was dusty, wall paper hanging off the wall, holes in the curtains but worst of all we had a dog friendly room as we'd taken our dog (which we have done at numerous hotels) but we're surprised that dogs were allowed to wander where they wanted. We had our patio door open as it was a beautiful day and next minute dogs were trying to come in, then someone's dog did its business right outside our patio door, people kept wandering past and peering in your room in all it was not a very relaxing time so much so that we left after a couple of hours and we've never done that anywhere before. Wouldn't recommend if you are wanting a relaxing stay without been pestered by other dogs whose owners aren't in control of them.

Good location . Outside area great when sunny. Great views. Didn't try the food but what we saw other people ordering looked really good . Definitely recommend a try, recently had food here excellent

Anyone who leaves a negative review clearly hasn’t chosen the right hotel for the expectations they have. RIVERDALE is a beautiful hotel, in a beautiful area, with beautiful food and the most amazing staff.Simon & Lee - never can do enough for you. I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and never ever have had a bad meal.Super happy and rested as always!

Brilliant place, excellent staff. Nothing too much trouble. The power went off Saturday morning and was still off when we left Sunday but it didn't stop the staff providing great service by candlelight including a superb evening meal.Highly recommend a stay here.

Very friendly staff lovely clean warm cozy hotel meals really nice ate in restaurant and bar couldn't fault them. Only small fault hotel very quiet could of done with some background music on in restaurant and bar area. Also pool too cold to use.But would recommend and return.

Very friendly and helpful staff and decent vegan food. Bar is a bit basic as are the rooms, but lovely views and village setting

Lovely location and the garden rooms have views across the rear to the river Tyne. The room was warm and comfortable and breakfast was good quality and well cooked. The nearby village was an easy walk either along the road or the riverside and I would recommend a walk to the waterfall. Would stay again if in the area. The only negative was that the hotel suffered s power cut on our departure morning and there was no hot water. While I appreciate this was not the fault of the hotel I would expect an apology for our inconvenience.
