Fantastic food yet again from Eddie and the rest of the staff. The mackerel starter I had fantastic followed by homemade sausages for a main. Great food for a good price. I highly recommend coming here

A very nice hotel located in a small village. We has a superior room which was spacious and very comfortable. Rooms were clean and quickly serviced each morning. The food was good and the 8 course taster menu was excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful and the service in the restaurant was extremely good. The small staff team work very hard to provide a good service. There is ample car parking and even electric car charging points. The hotel also has its own Dark Skies Observatory located at the back of the car park, we enjoyed an interesting evening star gazing here. Well worth a visit, book and pay online separately from the hotel booking. .

We visited Battlesteads for a wedding anniversary dinner. The ambiance is warm and characterful, the service friendly and prompt. The food is very good indeed, made where possible with fresh, local and seasonal ingredients. There are some interesting, well-made and (in the best possible sense, that of not being clichéd!) unpredictable dishes on offer, such as a starter of devilled kidneys on sourdough toast.

We attended the 'Stargazing & Moonwatch' event last night, and it was just incredible! Roy was so friendly and informative, and we were so fortunate to have such a clear night sky! From holding a piece of moon rock, to taking some stunning photos on our very own smartphones using the impressive telescope, the whole evening was just amazing! Would totally recommend this place... We hope to be back!!

We had a lovely weekend stay here through Secret Escapes. The package included the 8 course taster menu ... our favourites were the mushroom soup and the beetroot dish which includes a beetroot ice cream. The staff are very friendly & helpful. There's a leaflet of local walks from the hotel and it has its own observatory open on special dates.

Experimental, quality food at an affordable price. Great vegetarian options too! All staff were friendly, especially at reception and the bar where they went out of their way to improve our stay. Rooms are spacious and clean. Also, some rooms are dog friendly, so suited us well. Plenty of good walks from the doorstep. We'll be back!

Apart from a nice beer and the friendly chef who carved the meat for our Sunday dinner, I’ve never been more disappointed with a restaurant. We had such a cold welcome, were made to feel rushed to order our food despite having a booking. The whole experience was nothing like we had expected from reviews and photos online. Very disappointed and won’t be returning.
