Prompt bar service from some pleasent young men. The situation takes some beating in the the amazing village of etal . Only a few few drinks in the spacious garden but had a lovely time. Opposite a wonderful tea rooms. The garden is very large. Bar is long and waiting time was short. Large car park directly next to the garden. Quiet place to relax. The village of Etal is picture perfect with lots to see including the castle . So the pub is a good place to rest and recover after a good long walk.

It was delicious! I wish I had taken a picture of the food, but we were hungry and tucked in quickly. It's very pleasant inside

This pub is fantastic. It caters for people who follow a Vegan or Gluten free diet. The food is simple, but delicious and the prices are very reasonable. Dogs are welcome too!

Nice enough, not that big inside. Not many covers, and they don't do food until 6pm...Shame they don't think to use the "reserved" signs on the tables.. member of staff was polite enough when asking us to move.Food was better than expected, albeit a little overpriced in my opinion.Located in a lovely area, river just a short walk away, and expect it must get very busy at peak holiday times.

We stopped going to the Black Bull when Steve (the chef left) and then the pub closed down for a few years. It was subsequently refurbished and now under new management. We had a great meal there on Saturday and it’s good to see Steve is back, We thoroughly enjoyed it, I had the black hog beef and it was really nice. My wife mentioned to Steve how she used to enjoy the trout in Pernod & mushroom sauce from the old menu. He said phone with a few days notice & he’ll have one ready. Not many pubs would do that. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. Pity it’s not as local to us as we’d like. We would visit more often.

We called in for food with our two dogs, who were made very welcome! The food was so good that we really will go back very soon! We had Brie & cranberry toastie with chips & salad followed by sticky toffee pudding with ice cream and fruit crumble with custard. All delicious! Staff were very friendly and I feel the need to mention the ladies toilets, which were impeccable and had complimentary ‘emergency supplies’ available. Something we should see more of. Well Done The Black Bull! We are now fans!

Lovely pub/restaurant, the food tasted mostly fresh, the portions are generous and seems it is locally source. However, there is room for improvement, specially the mash patatoes (it tasted like packed dehydrated mash). The staff are lovely and welcoming.

Very pleasant, with great staff. Food is good and acceptably priced. A good range of beers on tap. Outdoor seating for warm days. Car park adjacent. Not suitable for children. That's because I don't believe pubs are the right environment for them.

Had a lovely meal at the Black Bull, Etal. Steak was beautiful, cooked just how we like it, and the sticky toffee pudding was to die for! Great ambience and excellent service. Our AirbandB host very kindly gave us a gift voucher which we used towards our meal and was very much appreciated.

Lovely pub. We only had a couple of local ales today ( which were well kept and tasty) but we would have eaten here if we'd had better timing because the service was good and the food smelled and looked delicious. Planning to come back again to sample more.
