I had read about the Steak and Wine evenings and decided to try the County and so went to eat there one evening with my wife and parents, We all received our meals at different times, the steak was tough and cold ! The waitresses were great and apologised but complained about the chef not caring. I wouldn't recommend and certainly wouldn't go back there again.

Only stopped for drinks, would love to try a meal or overnight stay. Menu looks good with plenty of choices around allergen intolerances

When you walk into the County it always feels warm and cosy and you're always well greeted by member of staff. It's always quite busy but quiet enough for you to hold a conversation. No complaints if you go in just for a drink. However I'm always disappointed by the food, normally the food is ok and palatable, but last night took the biscuit.I ordered the BBQ beef hash, which can only be described as a bit of pulled beef and mixed beans absolutely smothered in bbq sauce. I mean I should have expected it but it was bbq overload and reading the menu I expected at least larger chunks of potatoes so I could taste something different rather than just rich sickly sweet bbq sauce. I mean I love a bbq pulled pork sandwich, so it's not the flavouring I didn't like, it was just how over powering it was.Not once was I asked if the food was OK, not even when my plate went back to the kitchen still quite full. I got the impression they were scared to ask because it was visible I hadn't enjoyed it one little bit. I was ready to say "well its not great" the fact I wasn't asked is why I'm leaving this review now.On top of that. When I totted up the receipt I realised we were over charged! The people dining with me had told me not to moan and consider it the tip (which i disagreed with because), but their food wasn't has unpalatable as mine.Any decent restaurant would have offered an alternative dish or put a discount on the bill. While I understood that the restaurant has to make an income, but I too have to make a living and eat. I'm not sure I will be going back for food.

Lovely lunchtime fish and chips with my mother. The portion size was just right, the fish was faultless and the service was great.

Great experience at the County Hotel. Made a hot toddy from scratch even though it wasn't on the menu. Much appreciated and the staff were fantastic, especially Fiona behind the bar who made it.

The County Hotel in Hexham is simply fantastic. The staff, especially the manager, Philippa went out of their way to make us feel welcome over our three night staff. The room was good sized and well equipped, the only down side perhaps was the mattress was a bit thin, but it was fine. We ate in the hotel one night which was of high quality. The choice of drinks at the bar was fantastic and bar staff were knowledgeable. We cannot recommend the hotel highly enough. Thank you all.

Third time we have visited for lunch in the past couple of months. Today we hadn't booked a table and the place was packed. The staff however managed to find us a table. Food is excellent value here. Staff are very friendly and welcoming even though they were rushed off their feet. Would certainly recommend this place for food. We are back next week with friends

Recently went for a meal here and I have to say it was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had our dog with us, and they really took care of her too with a fresh bowl of water and some biscuits so she enjoyed it as much as we did. The food was very good indeed, well prepared and presented. The service from the staff was excellent. Highly recommended for good pub food in a warm and friendly setting.

Dropped in to break up a long drive. Very good welcome and service. Will be back with our dog when we are less rushed. Food good, price reasobabe. Good atmosphere and seemed like a lot of happy customers in there.

Dropped in on the off chance of a table, mid afternoon, was very busy, sign of a good restaurant. The food is cooked to order, I had cod and chips with mushy peas. Batter was lovely and crisp not too thick, the fish inside was superb, with homemade tartare sauce. My wife had the chicken with bechamel sauce and red Leicester cheese, which she thought was an amazing combination. Thoroughly enjoyed our meals, we will definitely be back soon. By the way the staff are very helpful and friendly, could not do enough for you.
