Friendly staff and clean and comfortable room. The toiletries were very pleasant and shower was easy to operate. I was surprised to find a fridge and ironing facilities. I was in the Lodge and had easy access to come and go as necessary.

Stayed in the lodge and very nice. Well appointed and quiet.We had a dinner, service was very good and the Cod was like a whale!Breakfast is also very good with the Buffett fry up.We will be coming back here again.

Stayed for three nights on our way down from Scotland.Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, nothing too much trouble.Lovely spacious comfortable room in the Lodge, clean and well serviced.Had both breakfast and evening meals each day, my wife who has coeliac disease was over the moon with the choice of meals available, neither of us could fault the quality or the service.Plenty of off road parking.Excellent location for visiting National Trust and English Heritage properties.Will definitely stay again when we are back in the area.

The hospitality and customer service from every team member at The Portland was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for anyone of them.The rooms were spotless and the housekeeping during our stay was faultless.Every meal was lovingly prepared and perfectly served.Thank you for a perfect stay.

Lovely accomodations, two rooms in the lodge. Big comfy beds, plenty of space offering all you could need for a fabulous stay. Very reasonable price, we were pleasantly surprised. One if the housekeepers showed us to our rooms. She was so lovely & friendly. No hesitation in linking my elderly mother's arm to help her walk over. And carried her bags all the way to the room. What a star! We stayed on March 29 & front desk handed us over to her. Hopefully this will help identify her.We shall definitely stay here again when in the area. You can't fault this hotel & the staff are wonderful.

Have stayed a few times here and always a friendly welcome and a very comfortable, well equipped room. This is an old style hotel in as much as the staff are exceptional in their attention to make you feel at home. A comfortable pub lounge and a good choice of meals.

We stayed for one night at the Portland for a family funeral, on arrival we received a warm welcome by the staff.The room was very clean and spacious, a large car park right outside the room. Would recommend and definitely stay again.

Pre covid we were gifted a two night scrumptious stay voucher which included one evening meal and breakfast both mornings, we choose the Portland at Ashington. On booking the hotel said, they were unable to honour the evening meal part of the deal due to the age of the voucher. But would allow us to have breakfast on both mornings.During our stay the staff were all really friendly, helpful and made us very welcome. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was great, with a special mention to Tracy who couldn't do enough for you and worked really hard to ensure that everything was perfect.We didn't let the disappointment that the voucher was not honoured in full spoil our stay. We could have picked any hotel and we choose this one, overall I would recommend a stay here.

Friendly staff keepers within covid rules nothing was to much trouble would recommend Portland to everyone very clean separate sleeping at back of hotel. Building work getting done in main hotel but did not disturb us was told it’s dog friendly . Good selection for breakfast even got mug for my cup of tea great you used a key fob for building and key for bedroom.and was given a break down of the bill. There is a small parking place at front but larger one at back of hotel.
