A group of us stopped for drinks on Bank Holiday Friday and soon found out why it was empty compared to all the other pubs in Alnmouth. On the inside the building is very tired but the outside decking area seemed OK. We ordered various beers including Guinness. None were drinkable. The barman changed the barrel but that didn't help and we suspect that the lines hadn't been cleaned for a long time. We also tried a bottle beer but that was barely chilled. We left unable to finish our drinks. Certainly a place to avoid.

Booked and paid 3 weeks in advance, arrived on the day at agreed time and found place was closed, deserted and calls and emails went ignored. Was lucky to find alternative accommodation at such short notice. Booking.com refunded my money but could have been a disaster, still nothing from the hotel in way of apology. Avoid!

The Schooner is a great little place. There appeared to be only one member of staff doing everything! He was spot on but you could see that being a problem if it was busier. The place needs some love and should embrace/lean on its history a but more.Has a couple of ghostly experiences so would definitely come again!

Disappointing. Arrived in Alnmouth very hungry. Unfortunately could not get booked anywhere for something to eat. However, we managed to get a, seat at Schooner. Now I know why🤪Food not good and portions poor we thought. Service poor and place was empty. Then the bill arrived, absolutely shocking, unbelievable.Don't risk it guys. Would definitely not recommend.

Nice Hotel. Needs some upgrades, and they are on with it. Nice sized room, number 6, and beautiful new bathroom. Kind of hit and miss as the room was in need of decorating. The Hotel itself is lovely with lots of original features, location is perfect, just needs renovation to be complete.

After reading reviews we were very apprehensive about this visit but we were pleasantly surprised. We were given a warm welcome and found the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is currently undergoing some refurbishment and good luck to the team. The room was large, clean, fresh and adequately furnished, the beds were extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean. The bathroom was pristine and modern. Contrary to a comment about no safety measures we did find fire exit routes clearly marked. This is not a 5 star hotel but 3 star, anyone not happy and wanting 5 star should dip into their pockets and pay 5 star prices. I wish the owners well, they are working hard to improve the hotel but one must remember this is an old property and not a newly built one. Only down side was that we didn't see the ghost.

First time visit to Alnmouth and booked our stay. As an old hotel with its history, rustic but has a modern touch. Our room, with a sea view was well presented and a large en-suite. Although staff levels was limited, the manners, hard work and hospitality was very friendly. The rustic free flowing nature of the hotel made us feel relaxed. Initially going to stay for a few days, however stayed a shade longer over a week. The meals were quite good but the Indian meals were EXCEPTIONAL. Thank you Rav and Sam for the interesting stories and the history- Most Haunted hotel. We are already planning our next visit.

Stayed here for three nights, three of us in a room with a dog. I'll do all of the positives first. We arrived early and found a parking space almost at once. We were able to move the car a little nearer as the day went on.We walked under the arch to a lovely outside area, water for the dog. I went to get us a drink at the bar. I advised the man behind the counter that we were booked in but were early, i got the drinks and in no time our room was ready. The room was fine but a little dark with a small window, Room 4. I asked if there was another room and was immediately told yes and they would bring the key to us. They did very quickly and i went to look, the room (32) was much better, lighter and airy. Of utmost importance, the beds were 'nipping clean' lovely white sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of storage space, not many coat hangers but after a quick phone call we got lots more. That set the tone for the rest of our stay, anything we needed was no problem, the staff worked so hard. They were very friendly and, as i say, very helpful. Sam seemed to be there all of the time and worked a hard shift. Now to the negatives, the Hotel is in need of a lot more work to bring it up to standard, the areas walking round are not great and not all of it was clean. We had a rainstorm and the ceiling leaked, we didn't mention it because we were leaving the next day and it had obviously leaked before, there was new paper glued on over the last leak. The shower didn't drain away as quickly as it needed to, this resulted in a mini flood which we mopped up with the towels that were in the room. When we spoke to the staff about the hotel, we were told that they had not been there that long ( a couple of years, maybe three) then of course Covid hit and i cannot imagine how they coped. They are obviously trying to do it up but need money and therefore guests to be able to do this.Catch 22.I really do wish them all the best, i hope their luck changes and they manage to pull it off.I worked in the hotel trade, i could see so much potential and would loved to have given some ideas in the short term.

We were in Alnmouth for a week and wanted to go out to a pub on the last night however everywhere was fully booked. We stumbled across this beer garden and I'm so glad we did. The staff here were so friendly I can't praise them enough! They had such a laugh with me and the people I was with and with other customers. They were super helpful. The outside area was lovely and we only meant to go for a pint but ended up staying for food and several drinks because of how nice other people's food looked. The food was amazing, we intended to have fish and chips however after seeing other customers get food from the Indian menu we all changed our mind. One of the best curries I've had! Would definitely go back if I return to Alnmouth.

Not sure it deserves such bad reviews. We stayed there last night and it was perfectly fine. The staff were pretty friendly and the service was good. The room was clean and had everything you’d need. The location is of course excellent. It’s a bit run down and all that but if you’re not too fussy that doesn’t really matter.
