Canteen and Cocktails in Stockton-on-Tees

Great bar, very busy on a Friday night but still served quickly by friendly staff

Visited mid week for a liquor coffee and they were more than obliging and helpful with a cosy atmosphere during the week. Of course at the weekend it has a night life feel instead but still lovely.

We visited on a Thursday evening and it was fairly quiet. We were seated immediately and the waiter came for our drinks order really quickly. I have a food allergy and I informed the waiter who took the menu to the kitchen and got the chef to cross off what I couldn't eat. Although there wasn't a lot that I could eat I found two sides that I liked and I was very happy that they were so honest about the menu . Service was as fast as you want it considering the food is freshly made and the staff were excellent. I have given only four stars because of the very limited menu for me. I probably won't go again for food due but I would definitely go for drinks, it's a lovely bar.

Sunday lunch with family. Crossover really between an American style bar/ diner and a British restaurant. Dinner served on boards and eaten off enamelled tin plates. Food was good overall although the gravy served in tin mugs was very thin and watery. Desserts were good but possibly too large after a good lunch which is possibly a nod to the American diner approach. Pricewise it was value for money. Service was very good and well staffed to cope with customer numbers despite the general view in hospitality that there are problems in recruitment of staff.

Went for Sunday dinner which although tasty, had really small meat portions. I might go as far to say stingy actually. Considering it's supposed to be a sharing platter, you're expecting a feast but it's only thin 2 slices of meat per person. However, it was cooked beautifully and the sides were plentiful and delicious. Staff were friendly and down to earth but not exactly attentive. Overall, a disappointing experience but not terrible.

Really nice BBQ/grill and bar with friendly staff. The food is delicious with good size portions. The cocktails are amazing. We'll definitely be back.

Incredible food, excellent cocktails, service was a tad slow but we didn't mind coz we got to natter whilst we waiting for the grub and it was worth the wait! Massive portions as starters tho so didn't finish my main but enjoyed it all the same. Considering this is a stone's throw away from our house, it's like something you'd find in America - and reasonably priced! If you haven't been, get there now. Book a table if it's a weekend tho.

The food was good. The staff are nice. I am not a fan because as it gets later it kind of turns from a restaurant into a bar but there are still tables everywhere. The layout doesn't work very well for this so I would recommend it as a restaurant early on but not for a drink later.
