Wonderful staff/owner made me feel very welcome to the area I’ve just started working in chips spot on fish spot on curry spot on cant wait for work to try more. Thanks again!

This shop has been on Durham road for years. Really nice owner and fish and chips is lovely.

If I was to review the staff or cleanliness it would be 5* however the food let it down so much used to be gorgeous food now not very good, the chips were very dry, scrappy and tasted like they had just been warmed up from yesterdays food, absolutly awful

Staff and shop was ok, I think the chips were reheated, portion size was ok. Can't put your own salt viniger on and staff where shy with it. Poor to average

I love this chippy, so nice and clean. Owner is great and so are the staff.Proper Chippy, no mucking about with kebabs or owt like that

My main chippy. As a long term customer I tend to go as many places don't do spam. Lots of parking nearby and generous portions. Missed a star as fish sticks to the paper, like most chippies.

Just bought patty and chips twice and fish bits plus mushy peas. Absolutely atrocious... Cold.... Fish undercooked ... Chips should have not been served. Very disappointed as normally lovely. Won't be going again. ☹️

As I walk past the place very day, I see Ritano's is definately popular...but - and to be fair, I tried their fish and chips twice - still, personally I found no real reason, apart from it's convenience of locale, to try Ritano's a third time.Reasons? Small portions; thick, oily batter; inconsistently sized chips ("scrappy" to quote another reviewer). Even ordering the more taster, more expensive fish - still, definately not the best.There is definitely better in the area. But, only if you're willing to, and can travel a few miles, as I regularly do now.Useless fact: Fish and chips are not a wholly British idea. But, a mixture of traditional cooking, originally brought to the UK by Jewish, and Portuguese immigrates. Details on the very first British chippie, are pretty much lost to history..Anyway, whomever dreamt them up, I love good fish & chips. And, I've tried many offering, in many places, here and abroad.The absolutely finest I've tasted here, has always been from Chinese run shops (never found one nearer than Gateshead, unfortunately). And coming in a definite 2nd, one Turkish run shop, in Bermondsey, South London.And, chatting with both Chinese, and that Turkish ower I meationed on the subject, all simply said a big factor in that is down to the quality, and very much the freshness of cooking oils used.Very regular changing of that amount of high quality oil is of course costly. And, in turn raises prices.So, very rarely are cheap fried foods, going to be good fried foods, I've concluded.

Lovely chips and the batter was perfect, not greasy and nice and crunchy. Good selection of your usual accompanying things such as battered sausages and spam fritters. Would highly recommend.
