Where is Strickland & Holt?

🏠 44 High St, Yarm TS15 9AE

"Strickland and Holt is an independent, family run store. Fondly known as Strickies by many of the locals we have been part of this town for over a century. Strickies is situated in the very heart of the beautiful Georgian town of Yarm-on-Tees. Yarm is known for its unique/independent small shops and restaurants . With a long family history in the town it has developed since 1854 into the institution it is today. Open the door and you will find, like a Tardis, there is much more to see than you would expect. The aim is to bring unusual and well designed gifts, toys and fashions to the North East. We are adapting to the modern world, the global economy and hope to be able to swim rather than sink with the help of our faithful customers."

Strickland & Holt has changed their whole emphasis on the coffee shop. In our opinion it no longer holds the jewel in the crown that used to. It would have that 'special' little something, abit quirky and individual. Lots of changes have been made, staff, new counters, new food. Unfortunately we don't feel the same individuality is still there. The cappuccino was not great, the bacon sadly, more fat than meat. The value for money equally has disappeared.Such a shame for somewhere we loved a treat out to.

Very nice food. Staff very nice but "rushed off their feet". Pleasant atmosphere. A bit expensive.

I was there today and was quite disappointed with the pricing of the food. I had sour dough (which they did not have so was offered brown toasted bread), spinach, mushrooms and a poached egg. This cost £9.99!!! I was expecting either a side salad or chips of even both but essentially I was charged £9.99 for mushrooms on 1 slice of toast. Quite frankly, at those prices I would not go again. It was ridiculous for the amount of food I had on my plate. Service was slow. On a positive note they allow dogs and the surroundings are nice. You need to review your price list as you will lose business at those prices. We are all trying to watch the pennies due to rising living costs but I do think you have pushed your prices up to the point where I feel you cannot justify it.

Good size portion. Excellent service. Varied menu and we made 2 very good choices. Great cup of tea.

The service was ok but the coffee is very bitter if having an Americano, both myself and my friend couldn't finish it. Also the toasted teacakes we ordered were soft at first but by the time we finished the first half the other had gone that hard it was like a crispbread, not sure if they microwave them to warm them, but if so I suggest they don't.

A lovely independent shop.. Been shopping there for 50 years! Always has quirky gifts and greeting cards.. I've seen it evolve from little gift shop and pharmacy to the lovely shop it is today.

I like coming to Yarm and shopping, and having a coffee at the S&H cafe usually, but have to say today’s experience was not good. Went into the cafe at about 4pm, wasn’t even able to sit down first had to give my order standing, sat down the order arrived (couple of coffees a scone and cake). When we were sat down the staff were all discussing what cakes and scones they were taking home (fair). About 5 mins later, asked for another cappuccino, was refused as stopped taking orders at 4.15 (odd when they hadn’t cashed up and coffee machine was still on) would have thought they would want us to spend, so my pal had to wait without a drink whilst I finished mine off. Went to pay and asked if we can take away a slice of the Victoria sponge, they said it had sold. That was untrue as we were the last ones to enter the cafe , another couple were turned away at 4.15. I said I’m sure I saw half a cake, the woman said no there was just two slices and it had sold. Can’t believe the audacity of them telling me i had not seen half a cake there, funny because I actually took a pic for the gram, upon entry whilst I was standing, and there was more than half a cake, (see pic below) they just wanted to take it home. 😂i would have happily bought them all a slice, it’s not that pricey! Weird service today, not impressed and probs won’t come back again now. Ironic given I always recommended this coffee shop to my fellow gym members at rockliffe hall.

Lovely shop selling a great selection of products ranging from cards, toys, gifts, candles, clothes, plants, Christmas decorations. Discovered a coffee shop at the back of the shop! Will go there next time.

A lovely shop, with great staff who were very polite and chatty. This delightful shop also has a great café with helpful staff. My only negative was the toilets could have been cleaner, but they weren't too bad.
