The Waiting Room in Stockton-on-Tees

Way overpriced and either over or under-spiced imo. £17 for a green bean soup with lots of unnecessary raw hazelnuts in it (?) The starters were nice though, although again value for money was lacking. £8.50 for some mushrooms on toasted bread.. Friend had a French style pie which was tiny without sides, which were supposed to be there according to the menu. Another friend had a curry she couldn't eat because it was way too spicy - without being asked about spice level or asking for 'spicy'. Cocktails next door were alright. Overall, felt a bit like a rip off for what it was and how much we paid for it.

A warm and friendly greeting awaits you as you enter this homely restaurant. Staff, that feel more like old friends, serve a sumptuous menu of vegetarian delights. Highly recommended!

Staff were lovely and food came really quickly. Cheap price for a solid meal but I would have liked more vegan options though. The sesame roast potatoes were amazing! Thank you

The food is always delicious. They make a variety of imaginative vegetarian food. I should point out that I'm not a vegetarian. I just like good food. By about the second mouthful I forget there's no meat because of the different flavours and textures. The staff are always friendly. Unfortunately on this visit, service was a little hit and miss. We weren't in a hurry so it wasn't an issue.

Beautiful valentines evening meal. Twice baked souffle best tasted ( and I have sampled many over the years !!) Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Our go to place for a lovely local night out. Looking forward to the grocery store opening up.

last time visited 10 years ago and were not impressed, another chance and wont be going back. Very very expensive, service hit and miss, food could do with a bit more thought. Vegan options not apparent! Could be much much better such a shame - terrible valentines celebration, sorry!

This is a great looking place but sadly we caught it on an off day.We dropped in for two black coffees about 25 minutes before our train was due to leave Eaglescliffe.Over 10minutes later when nothing had arrived, we asked for the coffee to be put in takeaway cups.Still nothing appeared so we chased again.A woman then came out, apologised as she said the restaurant was really busy and did we want black or white coffee when we'd already ordered black.Several more minutes and the takeaway cups arrived. We asked her to confirm the coffee was black. It wasn't so she took them back.We got up and left to make sure we caught our train; no coffee and no time to ask for a refund.While we were there, another customer was complaining about being served a short pint of beer.Next time we are there will go in to reclaim our coffees and see if we get better service.

Fantastic place , loved everything I've had here And I'm usually a meat lover !!! Simply fantastic flavoured food

Ate evening of 6th Jan 2022. To start, trio of 3 dips, each with a trace of the promised flavour written on the chalk board. Despite that, the bread was great as was the spoonful of slaw. Main course - sweet potato, cauliflower and sultana stew on a polenta cake of celeriac and coconut. Sadly, dreadful. No balance in the dish, tasted of sugar, more sugar and more. The dining room was cold, we ate with jackets on. Given the awards and the promise that previous reviewers of the Waiting Room left, the eating experience was disappointing. The ale, at least is good.

One of my favourite restaurants which, sadly, I don't get to visit very often.The food is imaginative and really tasty and the staff are lovely. They have a range of interesting beers to. If you are ever in the area do yourself a favour and eat here!Oh and I forgot to mention the puddings...
