Top quality fish n chips.

Very average meal. The chips were not good and the scampi portion was fairly small

Great classic fish and chip restaurant in the heart of the beautiful city of Durham. But is it good enough to make my list of the best fish and chips in the UK?? … So here’s the lowdown1. The restaurant is cosy but has a lovely atmosphere, comfy seating and the buzz of happy customers2. The service was great. Had a short queue to be seated but the waiting staff were friendly and courteous, always making sure you were happy3. The food was high quality. Tasty chips, perfectly cooked using a good quality potato. The fish was good. Our party had both cod and plaice. The plaice was cooked in batter and was light and full of flavour. The battered cod was cooked well but less flavoursome than the plaice or haddock. Cooked in beef dripping and you could tell. The portions were generous too. And you are offered bread and butter as a side as standard.4. The cost …. For a good sit in fish and chip dining experience this was fairly priced and comparable to most others in the same league.5…. So …on the list?? Definitely….it’s great food served in a great location…what’s not to like?

Refurbished Feb 2022. Food fantastic - cooked in beef dripping. Additional fryer now added to cater for gluten free. Menu includes scampi, beans, mushy peas, gravy, cheese or corned beef patties & onion rings. Best takeaway!

Fish was quite good but the chips should have been better. At least half were odds and ends which seemed to have been cooked twice. The others were very nice and we both enjoyed them. A bit more quality control would easily make it 5 stars

Bells fish n chips Sunderland RoadOpened my fish up and it was that bad I took it back, normally I would just get a refund and go home but I was that famished I asked them to fry another for me even the lass who runs the shop said it looked disgusting tooGot home and and this was the second one they gave as a replacement.... I wish I never bothered

I want to give more than 5 stars!! Truly outstanding cod and chips from the shop in the city centre; we had beans, as well, poured on top. I really don't think you could have nicer anywhere, and coupled with friendly service. We had to wait a few mins for it to be cooked but that is well worthwhile and something I would never mind for such delicious food. I am just jealous we don't have anything anywhere near as good where we live... but if we are back in Durham again sometime, we wouldn't hesitate to eat in or takeaway from here!! 😋😋👍

Mostly really good—- lots of things not on their menu that I only found about because I saw people ordering and I mean loads of people get them: example the curry and chips is amazing, the curry is just so silky smooth- really worth it if you’re in the area
