Downey's Fish and Chip Restaurant in Sunderland

Excellent cod and chips: crispy batter, beautifully cooked, flaky fish and tasty chips. Cooked with beef dripping. Generous portions and offers fry scraps. Will be back soon I hope.

Had fish and chips there loads of times and they were very nice .yesterday good Friday they were terrible staff were on the verge of being rude fish was a tadpole and the chips were nothing but scraps .I know it was good Friday but fish and chips are expensive and they were terrible yesterday .I won't be going back on a good Friday again. Terrible.

Sat over three quarters of an hour. Service staff had no idea.We ordered our food to be told an hour later they had lost our order. Disappointing when we have been told food good. So if you got all day to wait go there. And they do not seem to care for people that are disabled time and consideration would have been something. I won't be going there again.

Great quality food and portion size at reasonable prices. Eat in atmosphere really isn't bad for an establishment that is primarily a take away.Staff on the counter could be a little friendlier and make clear some of what they're offering. I was offered "Scraps" on my chips and didn't have a clue what she was on about. Never been offered that before.

Lovely fish and chips. cooked to order so they are lovely and fresh. Have them when we visit our daughter cos we don't live in I seaham. Recommend them.

Food was very good! And staff were super nice. Went with my friends little boy and the woman who seated us could not have been more attentive. Kids meal a good size and the fish was huge!

The best fish n chips we've had. The fish was succulent covered in a thin tasty batter. The chips were nice and dry. Not covered in grease. Lovely. We'll be back.

See pic.So you can spoil your chips rotten with gravey, curry peas or plenty of salt and vinegar . What's great about this is you don't spoil the flavour of fish. But,!!!! You could spoil your fish with out spoiling those chunky chips.. ...TasteOh my god, I was in heaven,I finished the lot and the next day I was not fit for breakfast.I sent pic to all my friends and family and this chippy was 75% of the conversation.No matter where you are in UK, many gems and this is one of them.Lastly go and sit by tommy take in the view. And prepare your feast.That lid on the box will protect your feast from the Seagulls.Win win win.Great East Coast Chippy.

Very delicious chips today, freshly made to order. My daughter loved her chicken nuggets too and it's a great place to sit in for your lunch. Got very busy as we left so get there early on a Sunday if you don't want to Q.

Had excellent Langoustine and chips made to order. I was given a buzzer to inform me when it was ready, so I was able to sit and enjoy the sun while I waited. Perfectly cooked and very tasty. Great quality and value with a friendly service. Will definitely return
