Gills Golden Fish & Chips in Sunderland

We are a family of 3 and usually go out for fish and chips each BH Monday.Usually Red Hut- South Shields, Coastline- Blyth, Fish Face- Seaton Carew, Seabreeze- Redcar - for a bit of a drive out and dogwalk.We were busy on May Day so I told my wife to just pop local for our BH F & C's.Never been here before so, why not.Very average fish and chips (nowhere near as good as any of the above), & much too pricey.Maybe having 5 staff working when the shop was empty means you have to charge £31.50 for 2x f&c, 1x cod bites with chips, 1x mushy peas, 1x curry sauce and a bun.P. S. I was wondering if there'd been a spike in fish or tattie prices recently, but having checked other local chippies, they would have been £22 to £25 for same order.Greedy gets.Won't be back.

Expensive for fish and chips. Demolished readily enough, but would probably go to another local chippie for equally as good fish and chips at a lower price.

After wanting fish and chips for over a week we ordered from gills, being customers beforehand we just knew this place was unbelievable! Never had a complaint n any of the food. I ordered the fish and chips.. omg what a huge portion.. cooked to perfection to complaints what so ever. We also ordered the mega wrap.. being the mega wrap didn’t expect it to be as big as what it was.. lived up to its name.. again unbelievable. Lastly we ordered a pizza none greasy just right.. 100% would ordered again!!

Asked for large chips and got pitiful amount. Been using Gills as our local for 15yrs. Rang to complain and lady on end said basically tough s..... I said fine I've been customer for 15yrs and won't use you anymore. She's replied no problem we've plenty of other customers. Bravo Gills Bravo. X

Ordered tonight 18th September food was lovely and just the right amount of food for three people very tasty and not greasy.

Rude staff with definite hearing problems and what’s going on with the chips here? Absolute rank! This is a Fish & Chip shop for god’s sake, small, hard and covered in black bits. Absolute joke. Please avoid if you can, to avoid any disappointment that is. Thanks.

Must say, the staff & food are normally good but on this occasion, they weren't. Must've went at the wrong time of 8.30pm. Think the girl serving was a bit ratty, couldn't here what she was saying so I politely said sorry, & got the sigh & rolled eyes reply...?!Got the food, unwrapped it at home & the chips were cold & the cod was stinking to say the least, you just couldn't eat it.Think I'll give it a miss for a while, a long while. Sorry.Went again today - 24/7/21 at 12:45 (dinner time ) and for 2 bags of chips & a can of coke came to £5.80!! Opened the chips, tried them & they were definitely off the night before, you really couldn't eat them, what a waste! absolutely a disgrace - won't be going there again.

Chicken kabab was VILE. We asked for well cooked crispy chicken and got FATTY RAW PINK in the middle chicken instead. It was disgusting it all went in the bin. The pitta bread was rock hard and just fell to bits. But what surprised me the most was that they allowed a woman with a dog to enter the takeaway to order and collect her food and they didn’t say a word to her. And no it wasn’t a guide dog.Will never use them againReported them to just eat

Lovely fish and chips and plenty of them so good value with friendly service.

Ordered fish and chips online today. Communication, delivery time and food were all perfect. Can't praise enough. So so tasty and fresh 🙂
