Merrills in Sunderland

Nice fish, really nice.. but the chips are not that soft, some are like cardboard. Also a bit pricey... £7 for 3 fish bites and chips.If you want to pay by card they also need you to spend over £10. No idea why, no other business I've entered has this policy, it's probably because if you spend lower than this amount on your card, they'd want to charge you for it but they know they can't, so this is probably their "get around" that's my guess.

Disgusting food, the smell in the car was bad enough, a waste of £20 even my greedy dog wouldn’t eat it

First time in tonight for a few years. A lot of fish and chip shops lately at best mediocre. This was however a pleasant surprise. Fish and chips, cod bites, and chicken nuggets, enjoyed by all. Mushy peas and curry sauce very tasty. Definitely worth the visit.

Disappointed tonight. Not allowed to specify a time as there were no slots ,which we normally do for about7.30. Advised that it would arrive by 6.05 pm. IT DIDNT ,IT ARRIVED AT ALMOST 6.45. Nothing wrong with the food itself ,there never is but it was ALMOST COLD.

Placed an online order at 1730 to collect at 1830.Arrived to collect and the order wasn't ready. The customer in front ordered what I had ordered. I advised the lass that I had ordered the same to collect, she ignored me and then expected me to wait longer for my food.Asked for a refund which took two attempts to get, no idea why offer an online service if you don't fulfill it.I won't be going back and have been a customer for a long time.

The lady who served me was rude. Tone ws off, service was poor (1. how can you not offer salt and vinegar and just wrap it up and then be annoyed when I ask for it to be added? 2. her ear was itching and she put her finger in it with the gloves on and didn't change the gloves. 3. Is it unreasonable to not want a bag that looked like it had already been used when there was plenty of new bags visible and we are in a pandemic. I don't know where it has been and your behaviour already means I don't trust you.) and unfortunately although ok the food didn't come close to making up for the service.

25 years of ordering and wow, this place has seriously gone downhill. Chips were greasy and undercooked, the mushy peas looked like something the Hulk sneezed out and stuck to the container and the fish was a disgusting mash with a congealed covering that could only loosely be described as batter. I amazed it was even advertised as fish, as Im concerned where the fish came from as it looked seriously malnourished and un-appetising. Unfortunately, after 25 years I will not be frequenting the premises. Ordered a takeaway from Welcome Inn next door instead.

First time weve ordered and i have to say its the best takeaway shop me and the other half had so far 😊 yous have gained a new customer will most definatly be ordering from here again. Thin crust pizzas are amazing and perfectly thin kebab and chips are spot on garlic sauce doesnt taste like mayo and to top it off we wernt waiting for hours for it getting delivered like we have done a few other places.Thank you 👌🍕😄

Bought regular fish and chips. Poor quality tail end covered in thick batter. Disgrace for that price. They shouldn't sell fish of this quantity and quality at £6.95, it should either not be sold or sold at a reduced rate. Sent an email voicing my concerns but no reply. Very poor service.

Merrils take away has that traditional fish & chips taste, very nice and quality food. Hygiene was on top form. I would of rated 5/5 but didn't due to no seating arrangements and only one person was working.
