The Prospect Italian Bistro in Sunderland

I'm glad to say that after my last visit, nothing has changed! Excellent Italian restaurant, the staff are friendly and the food is very good. Not the 'traditional Italian dining experience', but that's not a bad thing. Portion sizes are generous and the prices are extremely reasonable. All food served at our table looked and tasted delicious. Highly recommended.

I ordered Chicken Souvlaki as a take away. Brilliant service delivered much more quickly than expected. Arrived piping hot and it was absolutely delicious nothing bad to say and will definitely order again and go to the restaurant as if this is take away I can't wait to try the eat in!!!

The menu looked nice, but we left before ordering, because we were so uncomfortable at the way the manager spoke to his staff in front of us. I see we're not the first customers to complain about this.My husband and I went there on a date, ready to spend money. The friendly staff gave us menus and directed us to a table. Then we sat for 20 minutes trying to catch someone's eye. Weirdly, the waiters were rushing around frantically, avoiding everyone's eye except the manager's, even though only half the tables were full.Eventually I asked the bar girl if we could have some water while we waited. She kindly took our drinks order at the table, and placed our drinks on the bar. The waiters were still busy, so I went to grab them. The manager swooped down on me. He told me to go and sit down, that I was not allowed to take them myself, and that HE would take them to us.The bar girl brought them to us. I asked her if she could take our food order. She explained with a smile that this wasn't her role, but she certainly would. (The bar had no customers waiting.) As she started writing it down, the manager swooped down on her, demanded to know what she was doing, and told her, "no! I told you only the drinks. Go back to the bar."He followed her to the bar and continued to berate her, right in front of all the customers, for daring to take initiative in assisting the clearly overstressed wait staff.So we walked out.Like the other reviewers, we sincerely hope the bar girl finds respectful employment where her professionalism, teamwork and efficiency are actually valued.

Did not book and there was 6 of us. Waiter found us a table and it was busy!. Very accommodating, meal fab, lovely staff and prices very reasonable. Also have happy hour on, where you can get a two course meal.

Not great at all. Pre-booked weeks before, advised when we booked it was for my mums birthday, I took balloons and flowers for the table. When we arrived, staff were singing happy birthday to another table which we joined in. I had to ask for menus 30 mins after arrival, and the waitress was apologetic as she had forgot! Service very slow and waited a long time for anyone to noticed we had finished our meal. We had empty glasses most of the evening as we just we not being attended too. The place wasn’t even busy with more staff than their were customers. We asked for a round of drinks that never arrived. And to top it off, no mention of my mums birthday by the staff, no sing song or celebration which I was highly disappointed with, desserts were below average and they didn’t have most of the sweets we requested. Overall, this used to be a nice place but we did not get the service we used to and sadly it was for a special occasion that should have been fun, it wasn’t.

Recommended by a friend and not disappointed. Nice ambiance, good choice menu. Good value for money and most importantly very attentive and friendly staff.Even got a surprise pud for my birthday.Definitely will go back

Had a lovely meal here with the family. Food is very good and they have a decent wine selection.

Fantastic meal and excellent service. Getting the kitchen done this week so forced into eating out, so glad. We will be back for a meal again very soon.

Came here for a pint after a nice walk around the local area. Lovely pint. Food was cooking the smell was divine, will definitely be returning to try some food and maybe another couple of pints. Friendly staff and a nice looking pub. Outside area is also nice to relax with a second pint.
