Sat in today for the first time and straight away I had to come back and give them a nice review! Had the traditional fish and chips with mushy peas and it was the nicest I've had in a while, the lemon wedge was also a nice touch and the gf's chicken was cooked to perfection too! This chip shop has a lovely atmosphere and I'd highly recommend!

They do fantastic lunch time specials and you get more than enough to eat. But there fish suppers are my favourite. But not on the special menu.

Amazing place with amazing food and staff.The best fish and chips I have had in a long time we will definitely be back.We traveled from Antrim as we had a recommendation from a friend and they did not disappoint.The portions a good size I couldn't finish mine and that's unusual for me. The even gave my son an ice cream and a drink with his kids meal.The staff are friendly and attentive which helps the whole experience. She kept my cuppa well topped up also.Highly recommend this place. Can't wait to go back soon

Food not as good as first opened,they have changed the flavour on their oil and their batter used to nice and light was lovely,now it's hard and crunchy. I think it's not as nice as it was. Cooks not great. See alot of pensioners sitting in not enough seating and service very slow to take away. Not impressed, soggy battered mushrooms stuck together and chicken goujons over cooked and curry sauce very thick and salty,the presentation was awful.Burger was cold.Don't think we'll be back,unless it improves.

We've been in NI for a month, no better fish and chips anywhere!!! This place is a don't miss!!!

Having not long moved to Ballymena, I've been looking for a decent chippy - and I've definitely found one with The Merchant Fish & Chips! My (takeaway) order was freshly cooked in front of me. All staff and customers were respectful of personal space in light of the current situation. The eat in part of The Merchant looked clean, well spaced out and ventilated. My order arrived promptly; was well packaged and still deliciously warm when I got home (8 miles away). We will come here again!

We stopped here specifically for fish and chips, we were traveling from further north back to Dublin and searched for options on Google Maps. We were not disappointed! Huge portions and super fresh! You order at the counter and they bring it to you when ready, everything seemed like it was made to order and not sitting around. It is a small restaurant, we went at an odd time and there were 2 other people eating, so I'm not sure if there are busier times to account for.
