We have been twice to this restaurant this summer. The food is fantastic. Customer service, atmosphere, and stunning views of Portstweart Strand are just outstanding. Thank you also to our lovely waitress Karolina who was so friendly and all the staff who could not do enough. All we can say is Wow! Well done and we highly recommend this restaurant if you are visiting the North Coast. It is a real treat! We cant wait to go back!

We dined here last weekend and the food and service were excellent. Unfortunately this weekend was spoilt by what seemed like the manager who created a whole negative vibe. Pity one person can destroy a place.

Incredible service from the staff, high quality food and the decor is beautiful! Just minus one star for the lack of sweet potato purée on the roast chicken dinner (that’s listed as a main ingredient on the menu, yet everyone else at the table who ordered other dishes also received this!) and I would have loved a wider range of dessert options. Also, it would have been great to have a price breakdown on the Sunday menu, as it seems mandatory to have three courses - when we found out that this isn’t the case. Overall a great experience though 😊

The food is good but, it seems like the portion sizes and plating of the same dish can vary. One week small portion of Monkfish, another large portion. Not sure if they changed it from feedback or they were running out of Monkfish the first time. The lamb dish with the burnt hay is a bit weird. I don't think the hay adds anything since they just bring it out in a box to show you it has been near some burnt hay. The 3 sauces/purees the lamb comes with don't make sense, just pick one. The suede one was good and the white one (horseradish I think) was good, the sweet tomato one wasn't good with the lamb. The pate starter was not good. Small portion and didn't taste that nice. Very disappointing especially when compared to the monkfish or fig salad which are considerably better. I think it would be 5 stars if there weren't pothole dishes in the menu. It's like if you pick the right dishes you could have a great night. If you string together some bad ones you could be very disappointed.

A group of 8 friends, all professionals, ate at 1894 on Sunday evening past. We had the most amazing meal, food and service at the table were top class. Could not and would not fault it in any way. That was until we (4 of us) asked the barmaid for a drink after dinner while we waited on our taxi (20 min wait). We were greeted with "how long is your taxi going to be" and when asked about a specific cocktail, dismissed and told "we dont do that one" (it wasnt an out of the ordinary cocktail). We ordered other drinks and sat down. This initial greeting left us very shocked and shortly afterwards we were handed a bill for the drinks and the bill was incorrect. Added a bottle of wine rather than a glass. When I went to speak with the barmaid, she immediately went on the offensive, when I was trying to be constructive about our experience so far, and raised her voice and at one stage when I asked to speak to a manager was told "to keep my managerial thoughts to myself". The manager had left early and left this young barmaid to lock up the restaurant for the evening. This situation was difused by another member of staff (josh) who was extremely professional and handled everything with the greatest level of experience and understanding. The Barmaid once again tried to "clarify" things with us and we asked her just to leave us alone. Josh again got involved and she ended up shouting and him in behind the bar and treating him terribly in front of us all.The whole experience of 1894 was ruined by this one person working there. I understand things are only opened up again and hospitality are finding it difficult to get staff, but this is no excuse for the unmannerly and unprofessional behaviour of this young barmaid. On speaking with the Manager 4 days after the incident, after leaving emails and phone messages, all she did was apologise citing the above reasons for us being treated the way we were. That to me is certainly not satisfactory. We have all visited other Browns Restaurants over the years and enjoyed them, but this has left such a sour taste in our mouths, that we will neither be visiting or reccommending them to anyone going forward.
