Food was lovely thought the fire may have been lit cold when door was opening

Poor food and service.We booked for 5 Sunday lunch. It's our fifth visit over a span of a few years. We visit the area and booked there as we are close.I have enjoyed it in the past and left good reviews. The last two times were not good.The Sunday lunch was served with a choice of Chicken, Beef, or Lamb.The Chicken was fine and my husband enjoyed the Lamb.My son and I don't eat lamb so ordered the Beef.It was so tough. I couldn't cut it with my knife and asked for a steak knife but really struggled.I cut up my sons beef to remove the choking hazards leaving very little. Despite that, we hardly ate any it was like the sole of an old boot.The roasties were a warmed up and dense and the Yorkshire puds were burnt black around the edges.The server was plesant but kept taking food away before my son had finished.It wasn't busy there at all. We were the biggest table and most were empty.The desserts were nice.I was prepared to pay for everything, even the extra £3 for terrible roasties, but felt that she shouldn't charge for the Beef dinners.When my husband went to pay she said she offered lamb so she won't refund.Frankly this was bad customer care. She could see us struggle with cutting and we left 90% of the food on the plate. We tried to get her attention early but she was in the back.Eventually a meal replacement was too late. She knew that because my husband had finished his meal already by this time.I ordered beef but got leather.She eventually gave my husband £6 off the bill. It was £24 for the dinners we couldn't eat.Better places in the area-The Corn Mill- Gales/Sams- The Three Eagles

I had the vegetarian roast. The potatoes were rock solid, but not in a delicious crunchy way, more as though they'd been left out for ages and reheated. Carrots were okay, swede was very hard and inedible. Cauliflower was virtually raw, not al dente but undercooked. Gravy was insipid. Cabbage was quite nice. The nut roast/strudel thing was clearly just some oven warmed frozen thing that was frankly rank. I can't believe the chef/proprietors have sat down and eaten this meal. Made all the more disappointing as when I was leaving, I clocked somebody else had ordered the roast and had been given Yorkshire puddings whereas I had not.On the plus side, the kids' sausages looked and smelt really nice, the fries were nice, and the cheesecake pudding was nice. My partner's bacon and cheese burger went down quite well too.Tldr: don't order the veggie roast as it's a beige/translucent pile of poorly cooked, poorly presented cheap frozen produce. Other stuff was passable.The staff were lovely to be fair.

Nice place, food horrible though. Heated in a microwave. Prices would be affordable, if it were tasty. The place has an atmosphere, I recommend for a coffee (£ 3 is not the cheapest but it's ok) I go - unfortunately I was unlucky (lost £ 9.95).

Food would have been great if not raw on my plate🤮. It was taken away and then we waited 30 mins for my meal to be remade in the mean time my partner and child had finished and was ready to leave . I got it in a take out box to take back to our tent . The pork was tough and the top burnt like they grilled the top to make sure it was cooked this time.Such a shame as it looked amazing.The potato gratin and the jus was lovely.Partners was fine and daughters chicken nugget child's meal was a good size too.( I will say they did deduct my meal cost which was nice of them )Their breakfasts are usually good tho from previous visits will stick to them haha x

Best lambchops ever, cooked to perfection.Food was great. The lambchops (menu of the day) were sublime.Outside there is a children's play area and beer garden. Children's menu and friendly staff.A hidden gem (not easy to spot from the road. They should put up a bigger sign!).
