The Hollybush in Flintshire

We visited today as had a table booked for 1.30. We placed our order quickly. After 45 minutes I asked how much longer as people who arrived half an hour after us had received their starter. I was told ‘five minutes” as they were finishing off my steak that I asked to be medium cooked. It arrived 15 minutes later and my steak was very rare and my mother in laws meal wasn’t hot. She returned it and I asked for my steak to be cooked more. The chips were minute like the end bits you don’t like in your oven chips. Last weeks meal was warm. I don’t be giving them the benefit of the doubt again. I had to buy other meal in the way home.

Went in for a drink and to arrange a family birthday meals. But we stood by the bar totally ignored whilst the barman was chatting to locals. Then another local finished his pint. So he served him and still ignored us. So we walked out. Organised elsewhere now.

Great friendly pub/restaurant. Nice relaxed atmosphere and great food. The portions were generous and service was good.

Lovely place to go! Excellent pub food with big portion sizes. Well worth a visit.

I came here with friends to celebrate 2 birthdays.It was a very good atmosphere and there was a lot of choice on the menu but when the food came the plate was stacked high and was far too much so I could only eat a small amount of it and ended taking the rest home.My friends managed to eat a bit more but felt very full too.Looking around the tables we noticed the fish and chips was enormous too.It would be much better if the plate wasn’t so much overflowing and would be more presentable.That’s why I only gave 4 stars as the restaurant itself was extremely clean and the staff were very friendly.

We were shown to a table very quickly and drinks order taken as we were still standing by it.We were harassed to place a food order. The starters arrived. No sooner were we finished, we were informed our table was required for a funeral party at 4.pm. We said that was fine and would move. At 3.30 were again harassed to move, so we asked where could we sit and were shown another table which we accepted. We had finished our main course so we moved and sat chatting with a glass of wine when we were again told the table would be needed by 6.00pm. We left quite soon after this and well beforehand .When the bill was paid were were informed that a 2hr period is allowed each table for dining. This wasn't obvious when we arrived . We didn't see any notices to that effect and why were we pointed to 2 tables only to be harassed to leave?The reason the tables were needed was because a funeral party was due. This should also have been pointed out. It's more than likely we would not have stayed if we had known.The food? Patè starter was good. Main course was not. Awful sausages, very rubbery.Also because they were so concerned about our leaving the table, desserts weren't offered.Plus point? The portions we're large and made for people with a big appetite. Too much for us.

What can I say about the Hollybush. Ive been there so many times for lunches and evening meals. They have never let me down with there meals. So friendly and helpfull.5 stars all the way.

Feel like this pub needs a serious visit from Mr Gordon Ramsay. The food was really bland and the portions were far too big. Chips were obviously microwaved and the rice. The pubs interior design is incredibly bland and feels incredibly dark and depressing. The best thing about the whole experience was the music playing. 2/10 wouldn’t recommend , neither would I come back.

Has always been a delight and still is many years later. Staff so helpful , food, beyond delicious and plenty of it. Lots of room around each table, very comfortable place.

My favourite pub!Had three pubs in my village at one point but, we still walk the mile or so to the hollybush.The food at the price point is unmatched, nothing is too much bother for the staff.
