I don’t think the 1* reviews are warranted although don’t get me wrong it’s not the best Chinese I’ve had by a long shot. I suppose a lack of competition can be blamed but if you are in the area and fancy a Chinese it’s not bad. What was frustrating was the lack of menu online so here I attach some photos. The duck pancakes were very nice at least.

Good(ish).Fyi if anyone likes nornal chicken noodle soup, do NOT buy it from here. Its completely different and tastes like jelly.

Have to say that we were really nervous ordering from here after reading reviews across different services but we need not have been.We are fortunate enough to have a couple of good Chinese/Cantonese takeaways where we live so we do have a certain amount of expectation when it comes to the food we receive and I can honestly say that this did not disappoint.I had a Singapore chow mein, Singapore fried rice and chips with my son. Major plus point... the noodles are the more traditional thin ones rather than the thick ones that are more commonplace, little minor point... perhaps a smidge too much salt in the chow mein. All in all really enjoyable and if we lived local, Chinese Cottage would be a regular treat.

No need for bad reviews, best Chinese place around, never had a bad meal, 25 years of ordering. Proper good, obviously some people can't handle having to wait, best Chinese ever!!

We were unsure about ordering after reading a couple of bad TripAdvisor reviews.. but our meal from chinese cottage was exactly as expected and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We had set menu for 3 and it fed 4 of us to satisfaction. Would order again and would recommend others to give it a go and not feel scared off from negative reviews online.

Visited recently while on holiday. It's pretty dire unfortunately. They get 2 stars on the basis that they're a friendly bunch and service was good. The food though, is just baaaad. It's the worst Chinese takeaway I can recall having, ever. Like strange different coloured / flavoured gloop with bits of reheated meat in it. I wouldn't go again and I suggest you avoid unless you are completely stuck for options.

On holiday, first night so ordered in! Absolutely delicious food. Only collection but not a problem as no huge wait. Can’t beat it!

Ordered in-store and staff were very good and the food didn't take too long. Quality of food wasn't the best- I had chicken chow mein and the dish itself was bland and relatively tasteless; a little over priced for what it was. The spare ribs were really tasty though!

Used to be lovely, but it has gone massively downhill in recent years. The sauces are disgusting, like a thick gloop, and the soups are the same. You end up ordering your food via a process of elimination; picking items that aren't as bad as others rather than what you actually want. Major disappointment. The only thing stopping me giving a 1 star review is that their 5 Spice Chicken Wings are nice.

I never moan, but that had to be the most disturbing & disgusting meal I've ever tasted, couldn't eat it. Feel like driving back only it's too far. Said they do real chips, all i could taste was cardboard, soup was thick with glup, Curry was more Corn flour, ribs where is sugar corn flour sauce, everything was dreadful, putting it mildly 🙄🙄
