The Gatehouse Steakhouse & Bistro in Gwynedd

Honest review, mainly for the staff/owners to see. We had a lovely meal, food was delicious - very very good steak, and a delicious smash burger. Selection of beers felt limited - nothing local on draught, but the beer I had was lovely. My only criticism is that it all felt a little clumsy. The music was tied to the phone system, so calls came in over the speaker system. A random fridge sat in the foyer. The reception area was unobvious/ uninviting and cluttered with plants etc (couldn't see staff when paying...), The payment was cash only or bank transfer - manageable with apps etc, but again, a little clumsy. There were other little bits like this that themed our stay. Would love to return to Gatehouse Steakhouse and see these little clumsy things ironed out and the laces pulled a little tighter. Overall, it felt like recent new management and things were still being figured out.Thank you for an enjoyable dinner, hopefully we'll be back again.

*Former chef and Steak-aholic*Honestly, best steak I've ever had in my whole life. I'm not even saying it. Everything was absolutely delicious. Me and three friends came to Wales for the weekend and one friend recommended this place. I got the 12oz cowboy ribeye medium-rare and it was absolutely amazing. Cooked to perfect, seasoned perfectly and just downright delicious. Service was fantastic and everyone was lovely. The decor of the place was beautiful and cute-old-timey.Fantastic.Can't wait for our next trip here x

Just had the most amazing, mouthwatering succulent steak ever!! Crispy chips and the puffiest onion rings I've ever seen! If you're visiting the area you have to go... lovely atmosphere and a brilliant waitress!!! 10/10

Visited this steakhouse last night, after endless hunting to get some food especially with 8 of us. We come across this gem.The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us throughout our night.I love this place even more on how the owner is so down to earth and doesn't think the "customer is always right" 👌 💯 keep it real 👍We will be travelling again from wrexham one weekend to enjoy the beautiful steak.

Great parking but restaurant it's self lacks a bit of a soul. Feels mediocre and like a boring cafe. Food and steaks are fantastic though, cooked just as you like it and great chips. Easy to find, definitely Worth a visit.

Whilst visiting North Wales for a break away and revisiting places I had gone to some 35 years ago as a kid we were looking for somewhere nice to eat and found this delightful place. Having done a very limited amount of research, reading reviews, we decided this was the place for us and to be honest we were not disappointed, the food and service was exceptional and really good value for money. Fabulous meal, compliments to the chefs and the two young ladies serving were an absolute credit to the establishment!Can we also tip our hats in respect to the owner who's answers to some of the "feedbacks" on here are simply brilliant! We need more people like John who tell it like it is!

Very friendly & helpful, we don't eat chips so they gave us more salad & vegetables which was great for us.

Reasonable food and price. Really enjoyed my “Death by Chocolate” dessert. Excellent service with cosy indoor and pleasant outdoor seating. Do take note they only accept cash.

We visited the Gatehouse Steakhouse whilst visiting Dolgellau recently. I am a little aprehensive to leave a poor review after reading the owners attacks of anyone that dares to complain. Our experience of this restaurant was a little mixed and this review is meant to be constructive rather than destructive. We had pre booked a 2 seater table inside the restaurant however, upon arrival we were taken outside in a sort of covered courtyard with a gravel floor. We wouldnt have minded so much had there been some sort of heater as it had been raining all day and was absolutly freezing. We ordered our starters which arrived reasonably quickly without any cutlery. When we requested this from the young waitress she firstly looked at us as though we were joking and when she returned she practically threw them on the table without a word. On the plus side the starters were delicious, Whitebait and a portion of Spring rolls.For our main course obviously we ordered steak believing that this would be the speciallity, Sadly this was not to be. I opted for a Fillet medium rare and my wife the sirloin medium. Whilst the steaks were cooked perfectly the quality and size appeared the same as what you would purchase in Tesco. In a Steakhouse restaurant I would expect better. The biggest disappointment was the fast food quality shoestring fries and the side salad consisting of lettuce with lettuce. Annoyingly, the rude young waitress informed us that there were no steakknifes and no mustard. This prooved to be a lie as 2 minutes later the the table next to us were provided with steakknifes. I requested mustard from the other waitress who brought it over immediatly.When we requested a dessert menu, we were presented by a hand written note on an order pad which seemed very unproffesional.At a final cost of over £80 for two people I would expect better. The restaurant is mainly let down by one or two rude young staff (the rest seemed fine), poor fries and side salad.The kitchen staff certainly know how to cook but the front of house and presentation need to improve to justify the prices.

Nice little steakhouse. Staff were friendly but rushed off their feet due to a no show. But they apologised and were easy to call over if needed. Food quality was good, but not excellent but we were all happy when we left. Some large cuts of steak available for sharers or particularly hungry people. We are local now so I'm sure we will be back.At the time of posting they were only accepting cash payment, so check when booking if that is needed. There are banks nearby if an ATM is required.
