The Royal Goat Hotel in Gwynedd

Always come to beddgelert but have never stayed in this hotel, very quick check in, room was basic but had everything we needed. For this kind of holiday it was a great hotel to stay in. Food was tasty. The best thing about this hotel was one member of staff in particular, Max. He was very welcoming and friendly. Max made us feel comfortable and happy. Understandable that it can be hard at work but Max demonstrated that a friendly face and a quick chat can go a long way! 💚

Food was great and staff were very nice.Only .2 criticisms were a not pleasant smell was in the ensuite room and the bar shuts at 9pm other than that a lovely time spent there

Had heard good things about the Goat Hotel and we popped in for lunch…. Gorgeous day outside but we were told they do not do food outside..!!! While we are still in the COVID Situation where is the safest space to be, for staff as well as customers.? Needless to say we left

We have recently returned from a 2 night stay here, where we occupied 3 rooms.The hotel is homely, comfortable, clean and with excellent food.We enjoyed our meal so much on the first night that we chose to eat here again on our second.The staff are very polite and attentive and apologetic at extended wait times due to COVID related staffing issues.Our meals were served promptly the first night but there was a delay the second but the quality was worth the wait!Breakfast cooked to order and alternative choices are available (I recommend the kippers and salmon)Stunning location, ample parking and lovely outside bar area.Would highly recommend.

Very good place to stay, staff are welcoming and friendly, food is good as well, only two niggles Wi-Fi none existent and other residents forgetting to close the lift door meaning a long walk to the top floor, we will be returning. Almost forgot about the bed, perfect.

Do not use Hotels.com or The Royal Goat. Booked & paid for superior double, was given standard double. The manager Joe didn’t seem too concerned and wasn’t listening to my disappointment in the room that was given to us. When I stated I’d booked a superior double he stated I’d booked a standard double. He blamed experia however I booked with Hotels.com! He was stumbling his words as he realised the error. We were offered a further 3 rooms which were even smaller and of the same poor standard and not to mention the sewage stench! Dirty walls, curtains, windows, towels. As we’d drove over 2hrs for my partners birthday weekend away to climb Snowdon we ended up staying and as we do we make the most of bad situations. I was in tears at one point as this is not what I’d planned for my hubby. I was absolutely gutted. The shower took an eternity to warm up and there was next to no pressure in the drips coming out! Oh and don’t be fooled by the Bar Grill…… they don’t actually do food during the day! If I could give zero stars for this hotel I would. Absolute dive in such a lovely little village. Tanronnen, the most lovely little bar & hotel 100 meters down the road was amazing with the loveliest staff and the most incredible food! Wish we’d booked there instead. The Royal Goat….. Hotels.com…. Both an absolute joke

Unusually I’d like to start with what wasn’t poor. The staff were attentive and delightful, the food (when it came and what was actually available) was lovely. But here’s the but: we sat for an hour and a half without food, even the starter of bread didn’t make it until the first course arrived. And when a steak did get to the table it was minus the pepper sauce for 15 minutes - and that’s just the start of it.After two hours and we’d nearly all been served, one of our party wasn’t given anything to eat - and when it was acknowledged everyone had eaten and still no show - so we ended up cancelling.Several dishes unavailable, and explained they had gone to non residents and walk ins. New staff couldn’t be controlled.No manager to be seen. And when asked to talk in the morning, instead of discussing the situation, passed to the staff a 20% discount.We didn’t want a discount. We wanted a something that was simple: provide a reasonable service to your guests. That’s all.

Had our first post lockdown meal here. Waiting staff were very friendly and helpful; always trying their best but you could see they were understaffed. Sea Bass was nice but lamb was quite well done and the Linguine was pretty spicy but lacked flavour. I would return for a drink outside but wouldn't bother with a meal.

Awful. No hot water for a shower in the morning, and after complaining, the chef came out to show me he had hot water, basically accusing me of lying. I wasn't allowed to speak and was talked over by him (all whilst he wore no mask!) The 'restaurant' we were placed in for breakfast was dirty and it had a very strong damp stench. The rooms and corridors haven't been decorated in 50+ years. Thank goodness we had a room with a newish carpet. Although booking.com says free parking with no need to reserve, we turned up to find there were no spaces, and was told by reception to go park round the corner on the road. We were not made to feel welcome at all, and I couldn't recommend people staying away strongly enough.

Unfortunately there is nothing Royal about this goat. Think Faulty Towers meets the shining.Let's start on the couple of good points.1- I found the bed extremely comfortable and slept very well. Harder mattress than usual, which i prefer.2 - The room was dated and basic. But it was clean! Cleanliness is important so it was good to see this.3 - the breakfast was superb. A local man comes in and cooks. He knows his stuff.Unfortunately that's where the positives end.The goat has bags of character and potential. But its clearly being suffocated by a management team that have no idea. The staff were friendly enough, but it was evident immediately upon entry that they have no training in hospitality.The main areas were cluttered and dark, with many areas being used to store building materials and other miscellaneous items.The bar had no draft beers on and only a small selection of bottled beers and cider. The wine selection was none existant. Don't expect to have a choice. Its either red or white, and usually warm.We ended up going for a local cider, which was nice. But we asked for some ice and they didn't have any.Three of the glasses we received had lipstick marks on them. Even the replacement glasses did not appear clean.Don't expect to get any lunch or bar snacks if you haven't booked anything. We sat in the beer garden for 3 hours, when we asked for a small snack we were told it wasn't possible by the waiter. His girlfriend was cooking in the kitchen on her own and was too stressed out. There were only 3 people in the dining room, it was far from busy.Eventually we got a panini and some chips. But it took some persuading.The following night we thought we would book a table. The panini was nice the previous evening and we were excited to try some of the local dishes they had.My girlfriend ordered the pork and I ordered the lamb rump. Being in Wales, I assumed this would be a great choice.However, what arrived was far from edible. 2 rock hard lumps of meat swimming in a watery bisto gravey. The meat was white and it was evident it came out of the microwave. My girlfriends pork was the same. Slimy, pale and dry with a side of frozen vegetables. Both meals were sent back and we ended up going to bed hungry.If it was pub grub prices it wouldn't have been so bad. But the meals were priced at £18.95, for this price they should not be coming out of a ready meal packet.The water pressure was pretty terrible and you got the choice of 2 temperatures. Arctic blast or acid rain. Don't worry if you can't make your mind up, you'll get to experience both settings during a quick shower!WiFi was not working in the hotel. The staff one was. But there was no WiFi for residents.Fortunately the stunning location saved the stay. Water pressure and WiFi isn't the end of the world. Especially given the rural location. Its the combination of everything else which let's the place down.I understand covid has slowed things down and it has only been open 4 weeks. But every other hotel, bar and restaurant in the village were running as normal.The Royal Goat has real potential to be a stunning place to stay. But the management really need to up their game.
