Good beer, but when we went, the food was poor. I had Cumberland sausage & mash with veg. Mash & gravy were bland. Veg was frozen and under cooked.

We had booked a meal at The Farmer's Arms tonight but unfortunately the chef was off ill and they had not been able to contact us to cancel and we turned up unawares. The barman, Tom, was actually brilliant. He explained the situation and said he did not want to let us down and offered to cook our meals for us instead (having worked as a chef previously) and we agreed. I have to say that the food was excellent. We are unfamiliar with the area, but I understand this pub is under new management and if tonight's friendly dedication to customer satisfaction is anything to go by, the future looks bright for The Farmer's Arms. Thankyou all for a pleasant meal and friendly service, especially to Tom.

Don't count on it being open! If the landlord is having a quiet night, he just closes the pub. Six of us walked to this pub at 9pm, doors were locked, and although he was behind the bar, with a slashed throat gesture he shouted CLOSED!

Nice, quiet little pub. I've stopped only for a pint after walking Cat Bells. It's a perfect place to rest for a while before journey home. Bonus: Log burner with life fire keeps you warm.

It's traditional and out of the way, but the staff were friendly and it was a nice place for a few pints. The pints were £5 and didn't taste the best but overall it was a positive experience.

If your hungry it’s best to not bother as we visited this pub tonight and our table was booked for 7.30pm and we chose from the festive menu, after ordering our 2 course meal, our starter arrived at 8.27pm, the starters were tasty but portions extremely small our main meal arrived at 8.54pm this was a turkey dinner that consisted of Turkey mash Yorkshire pudding peas and pigs in blankets, not exactly a festive meal but absolutely starving at this point we ate what was not cold but chose to leave the pigs in blankets as these were not cooked and tasted raw. No one asked us if everything was ok we left our meal and asked if we could pay for such a horrendous meal they gladly removed £75 from us and never spoke or offered a explanation for such a unpleasant privilege, we will never return to the farmers

My husband and I have been on holiday for 5 days. On our first night we went to 'the local'. We got a fantastic welcome from Matt. The landlord as we found out had only had the pub for 3 weeks. We had an enjoyable evening with Matt, landlady Becky, her son Ethan and dog Sam. Our dog Toby and Sam became great friends 🐾Matt has a collection of vinyl records. You can look through them and chose one to be played. You may even suggest something and you never know it might appear. On Wednesday there was an Open Mic night. That was a fantastic night and will be held every Wednesday night so why not pop along?Matt and Becky are committed to making this the best local and we wish them every success. If only this was OUR local.

Went in on Monday and Wednesday.Whenever we've been through Portinscale before the Farmers has been shut but the new owner is very enthusiastic and a hard worker.A great selection of beers on offer and atmosphere to match. We were sat by the front door and there was a never ending procession of people entering, mostly to eat, so obviously the Farmers team is doing something right.Cheers👍

A friendly little pub in the middle of a beautiful village.Excellent choice of beers and wines plus they're reasonably priced unlike most Cumbrian pubs.Limited food choices with slow service but to be fair the management are new.

Food was absolutely amazing! Definitely recommend the burger and apple & berry crumble with custard!😍
